Smile Re: Impressive rookies

There were several rookies that looked like they'll make the team, even though it was just an exhibition game. I thought Brennan would be cut early, but obviously I wasn't thinking right, and I had never seen him play anyway. But he looked good last night. So did several other rookies.

The score and stats don't matter in preseason, but if we see flags flying constantly, or just pure confusion all over the field, we're in trouble. We didn't see much of that at all which is a great site.

I was impressed, like everyone else, with Horton, Colt, Rob Jackson, etc. As usual, Marcus Mason had another great game in the preseason. I wouldn't be surprised if a team thin at RB stole him off our PS this year. Tryon made some mistakes, but I still hope he makes the team. And he had a few good plays, though he had far more bad ones. Maybe it's me, but I was not impressed with Gatewood at all, he seemed kinda... scared to me.
I agree totally there. Thats exactly what I wanted to see from our 1st teams on both sides of the ball. No confusion, just line up and run the play. We were crisp and sharp on offense when Collins wasn't in imo.

I liked what I saw overall and it quelled my nerves a little bit on how ready and prepared we are.

My concern for Brooks is holding for FG's and EP's. Heard somewhere today that missed FG was result of a poor hold. If this is the case, he could lose to
Frost on holding.
Brooks not at fualt:

Draft Picks Shine In Debut

Brooks also served as holder on field goal attempts. The Redskins had just one field goal opportunity, a 39-yarder by Shaun Suisham. The kick sailed wide right.
Zorn said the fault on the play did not lie with Brooks. Still, Zorn said he hoped to give Brooks more of an opportunity to establish himself as a holder for Suisham.

I was impressed with Rob Jackson and further ipressed that Jason Taylor has been impressed with him during practice and thinks this kid has potential to be a very good DE.

That is good news. I like Brooks. Pulling for this kid to win the job.

Re: Impressive rookies

I really like this kid Jason Goode (TE) out of Maryland. He didnt see much time in the game (1 catch?) but I watched him at camp- he made LaRon look bad on a few plays. I know he wont make the team this year, but hopefully we can keep him around.

If there's 1 dude that has a golden opportunity on the team it's Jackson. We're short at de & have needed some youth there for years. He got a bunch of snaps the other night & will get plenty more this preseason. I thought he did ok. If he makes the team that's enough.

What's up w/Boschetti playing so much at de? they must've been really short of players. He did a good job but I can't imagine they'd keep him at DE.

Re: Impressive rookies

I think Jackson is fighting with wilson for the last DE spot.

Projected DE: Taylor, Carter, Evans, Jackson. this year I think Wilson makes Practice Squad.

Re: Impressive rookies

Redskins Insider and/or Zorn apparently think Mason has a chance to make the roster this year:

"The Skins have a load of running backs, but Zorn continues to rave about [Mason] and thinks there could be a roster spot for the youngster who spent last year on the practice squad."

They have to find a roster spot for him, if they don't they'll regret it. This kid is the real deal.

Re: Impressive rookies

Yeah isn't it amazing what you can do when we keep our picks rather then trading them.

Wilson and Jackson will make the roster. We'll need the bulk on special teams and Evans will still swing inside because we have little depth there.

If he doesn't start returning punts and/or kickoffs, he won't make the active roster for this team...

Re: Impressive rookies

I thought the offensive line was the most improved unit over last year. The rookies look great all around, and the play calling was super.

One things or sure. They're doing a great job with the run blocking, but at the same time some of them seem to struggle during pass protection. Nothing to bad and the good news is that it's taking place later in the game.
