Re: Redskins vs. Ravens pre-game thread

skins lose 17-10.

Their D is good and they have a pretty good young QB. I always wondered what Baltimore would have if they got a decent QB.... it seems as if they have one in the making.

I'm not totally pessimistic, though. I think we'll win out and still make the playoffs, but we'll have to put up a better showing offensively to continue whether we make them of not...

Something tells me Jason Taylor plays his best game of the season this Sunday and comes up with 2 sacks.
If we score a defensive touchdown, we'll win.

I'm actually certain that the Redskins are too fundamentally solid of a team to lose a game in which their defense scores. Problem is, the only defensive score that has occurred in a Redskins game this year came off a fumble by our Guard.

It has been that sort of year. When looking for reasons why we don't score points, I think it starts with the fact that the defense and special teams have combined for all of six points by players not named Shaun Suisham, who has his own problems anyway.

I agree with the Jason Taylor part. He actually looked good (on the pass rush at least) against the Giants, and if we stop blitzing so often, I would expect his success to continue.

Re: Redskins vs. Ravens pre-game thread

I don't think it's too much to ask the D/ST units to average about 1.5 to 2 points a game, and the Redskins are at 0.5.

I think against a lesser line like the Ravens, we'll be able to do a good job of getting pressure on Flacco. If there's anything we've been pretty good at, it's defending the deep ball and that's his forte. I think Landry also gets a pick this game from Flacco forcing one deep.

I'm not sure I'd call the Ravens a lesser line. I don't think they are super talented or anything like the Eagles or the Giants or the Bucs lines are, but they have been incredibly healthy all year and when it comes down to it, thats the type of thing that really starts to matter this time of year.

We've really gotten a lot of pressure on quarterbacks all season long. Pressure isn't the problem, it's that we're not converting the pressures into sacks, and instead of 3rd and 17, the offense spends a lot of time in a much more convertable 3rd and 8 (and then we blitz, which raises the likelyhood of a conversion). Combine that with the fact that we were turnover-averse prior to the bye, and you got a pretty fine line between successful and unsuccessful.

Flacco is a fan of the deep ball, but Rogers is really the only guy in the secondary that can defend it. They could pick on Smoot/Hall all day with the deep ball, and I'm not sure Landry could get over the top in time.

I'd break out the cover two this week if I'm Blache.

Re: Redskins vs. Ravens pre-game thread

i don't make predictions. but Baltimore strolled into fed ex a couple of seasons ago without allowing a one hundred yard rusher in forever. their defense was playing lights out. and they were riding high. i think our defense is at least on par with those that have defeated the ROOKIE qback this season. don't hop off the ship, just yet

Re: Redskins vs. Ravens pre-game thread

Baltimore has a great defense sure, but more importantly it's a mean defense - intimidating, bruising, relentless. We will fair worse this Sunday than against any team so far and especially w/ CP ailing. Zorn should not allow Portis to even play IMO and just put it on Jason's shoulders (with some heavy doses of Ladell if the passing game gets going). But I don't think it will play out that way - CP probably plays like he did a week ago and the offense continues down same path...

Offensively, the Ravens are finding ways to score w/ far less talent than we have on offense. My hope is actually that Zorn approaches this game as a clinic more or less and we see something new the following week.

Ravens 24-0 (Goddamnit don't jump on me because I predict us getting shut out, this is the meanest defense we'll play all season and we just don't know how to attack/counterattack yet).

I must have missed the one where Irish singled someone out when he made his statement about the teams trick play but now we are jumping on a fellow board member and Riggo for either defending him or simply trying to be sarcastically funny?

I guess the losing funk is getting to everyone. Now we have to win. Geez.

Speaking for myself, I do not take issue with predicting a Redskins loss, praising opponents or criticizing the Redskins. Check these prediction threads and I think you will find that, more often than not, I actually predict that the Redskins will lose. And, if you like, I can send you links to posts in which I have defended people after they get blasted for predicting Redskins losses.

All that being said, I do not really have the stomach to tolerate people who appear to go into hibernation when the Redskins are doing well, come out of the woodwork when the Redskins are doing poorly, and generally write "negative post" after "negative post." What is, perhaps, even more aggravating is the attitude that those posters have towards other fans (i.e., "You are all blind and sheepish homers who don't see the truth like I do") and how they seem to enjoy blasting the Redskins players, coaches and front office.

Although I am a mod, I am a person with opinions. I have never tried to censor guys like irish from speaking their minds, but I don't check my feelings at the door. Moreover, I personally feel it is fair game to sharply disagree with disagreeable people. There's a fine line between "sharp disagreements" and "personal attacks" (the former are okay and the latter are not) and I hope that I haven't crossed that line. If I have, I apologize to all.

No mod has ever tried to stop me from making any positive or negative comments which says a lot for the mods.

But, I suppose that is somehow inferior to the "My kid is a total idiot and he's going to fail" mentality that you, Irish, and others seem to have adopted. Only recognizing the bad doesn't make you more objective, it just makes you ....

Summo, can we get a Debbie Downer avatar, maybe spice it up in burgundy and gold?

That's what great about this site, even though I can't stand your opinion but I am glad to hear it.

The only thing that annoys me about your posts Irish, is that you seem to be on a posting frenzy when things are going bad, yet during our streak I didn't see too much of your praise.
