Re: RUMOR: Bruce Allen to Redskins?
OK how many of you on the Gruden thread talked about how much he did with the lack of talent he had? If that was you then why would you want BA the man who was in charge of finding that lack of talent for the Buc's.?

The Bucs are the Skins of the NFC South. But I agree with many of the other posts. It's good to know Danny is at least entertaining the idea of getting help in the FO. |

Re: RUMOR: Bruce Allen to Redskins?
1. I always thought Gruden and Allen were really close but I've learned recently that they may not have been the case. They actually clashed a lot
2. This isn't the first time Bruce Allen has been rumored to be available and not the first time he's been rumored to be "coming home to the Redskins" 3. Just a couple of days ago, PFT was speculating Allen for NFLPA Executive Director. So what's next...Warpath Mod? 4. Bruce Allen's most obvious skill is his mastery of contracts and the salary cap...but we already have Eric Schaeffer for that 5. I increasingly get the feelings that, Allen or not, Scott Campbell is going to be a fall guy here even though they gave him more responsibilities last year 6. Bringing Allen in doesn't mean letting Cerrato go necessarily 7. Going back to point 5, plus Campbell's noted passion for college scouting and Allen's work with pro contracts, I suppose I could theoretically see a scenario where Campbell is Director of College Scouting (or whatever title you want to give him) and Allen is Director of Pro Personnel. But then what about Mo Brown? Does he jump over Campbell as Campbell did to Riddick and become Director of Player Personnel?

Re: RUMOR: Bruce Allen to Redskins?
So....first of all, this is a PFT Rumor....so I'm not going to get riled up about it until I hear it somewhere else (I checked ESPN rumors, and didn't see anything). I guess it'd make sense for Allen to come in as some sort of assistant to Vinny...unless Snyder wants Vinny to move on to other things right away.
Now Allen is no Pioli (although Patriots fans would tell you that Pioli did everything through Darth Hoody, so he's not that great), but I think a new voice in the front office would not be a bad thing.

Re: RUMOR: Bruce Allen to Redskins?
to me this all comes down to the danny's growth as an owner & willingness to let go/admit mistakes. i.e.if Allen were hired & given the title 'GM' many people would say it's about time we got a GM.
However, if he doesn't have full authority over personel, which I question whether Vinny truly does, we've got the same issues. Having said that, a hiring of Allen & letting go of Vinny might be a sign of major positive change by the Danny. But simply hiring another guy w/some name recognition does not convince me that true change is underway. |

What would you expect him to say? "well, vinny is in charge of all football decisions, until I decide I want to intervene." Granted, it looks as though Vinny has been given more authority & is speaking for the draft picks. But my point is that if you were good friends w/your boss, even though he officially has handed over the reins, don't you think that his opinion would heavily influence your decisions? I asked this question of JLC but it didn't get posted in his online chat. I asked if there were any owner/gm friendships like that in the nfl and how they affect biz. The only one I know of was Shanahan & Bowlen in Denver. It was really hard for both of them when Shanahan was fired, but after all those years maybe it couldn't go on w/ a friendship and a business relationship. IMO, if you value the friendship long term, it might make sense to change the business relationship, whether by firing or reassigning duties. |

My point is not to accuse him of meddling, though that shoe has seemed to fit in the past, rather I think it's naive to think that his influence over Vinny has to come through on virtually all major decisions. He's VC's boss & friend, so e.g., it's logical that drafting 2 wr's & a te in the 2nd rnd. appears to be influenced by DS, given his history of wanting a star wr. Not to mention the reported trade offer for ocho cinco. I can't believe that's solely Vinny making that decision. |

Re: RUMOR: Bruce Allen to Redskins?
One thing that makes me salivate is a lot of the lineman he's drafted have turned into quality starters. Sears, Trueblood, and Joesph were all part of a line that helped Dunn (who's 34) and Grahm combine for over 1,200 yards with a 4.2 average. Zuttah also seems to have a bright future with the team. Aquib Talib turned out to be one of the better defensive rookies this year with 4 int's. Clayton was a one year wonder. Barrett Rudd was one hell of a pick and Alex Smith has been a nice role player for them. As for the rest well I'm willing to bet that a lot of them are cut but some of them might have a role that only Buc's fans really pay attention to. Sort of how like how we know about guys on our team like Lorenzo Alexander, Demetric Evans, and HB Blades.

Re: RUMOR: Bruce Allen to Redskins?
Allen has the pedigree of his father and likes to draft for the trenches. He had good picks in Oakland and Tampa.
He would be a big improvement on Vinny Cerrato in terms of direction of our draft picks and quality of those he picks. |
