Re: home brewing

Gave it a try last weekend was underwhelmed. I'm going to give the batch another couple of weeks to see if it improves. I thought the taste was so-so.

Re: home brewing

I've made a few batches of it and have liked it, trying different recipes till you find one you really like is fun. But it's one of those things where if you make it then you tend to like it so much better.

I like to make the pale ale (Canadian Draft + Pale Malt Extract + a full package of cascade hops), but if you blind taste-tested me on that mixture vs a Sierra Nevada or other good pale ales out there, I don't think the Mr. Beer would win on taste alone.

Re: home brewing

I made Red Devil IPA

Mine wasn't watered down, the flavor just wasn't what I expect from an IPA. Not hoppy enough. A little undercarbonated too. A little more time might help, we'll see.

I try to err on the side of more sugar in the bottle as opposed to less sugar in the bottle. I'd rather have over-carbonated beer than under-carbonated.

Whatever they recommend for sugar, I use heaping measures instead of level measures. That seems to bring the fizz.

I'll try that next time.

Re: home brewing

I wasn't aware they were still making those ice beers. What a gimmick.

Re: home brewing

We had our beer contest at work last week. and mine came in second place. I honestly should have won but I suspect people were paid off :p My beer had a funky initial taste but all in all it was drinkable and had no after taste.

My beer was good it just didn't win the office beer contest. I had a few people tell me it was drinkable but that they're not use to the weird taste.

The longer you let it sit the better it will be. When I used Mr. Beer after bottling I would let it sit for at least 2 months.Give the yeast time to convert all the sugars. With patience and cleanliness you can make a very drinkable beer. B?est part is two weeks after christmas bed bath and beyond marks all the Mr. Beer stuff 50% off. After you do a few good batches I recommend a real starter kit. You will find the beer you can brew with these can be on par with anything you can buy in the store. They cost between 80 and 100 dollars and they are well worth it. For around 300 the kit come with a kegging system.

Re: home brewing

Back in high school a dude built a still and boy that white liquor was brutal. It got you good and drunk though. It literally tasted like death.
