I hear what you are saying, but listen, if a police officer comes to your door, I think you have an obligation to be respectful. He was doing his job, and responding to an alleged crime. Once he had established that Mr. Gates was the legal resident, then yes he should back out. BUT, and I think this is important, Professor Gates could have chosen not to walk out. And just closed the door. but he followed him out, yelling and acting more like a guy (any ethnicity) "off the street" then a Harvard Professor. And he was told to "chill" several times. Really, if someone acted stupidly, I would have said Prof. Gates did. Now the officers could have, and probably should have, just walked away, with the famous line - "Nothing to see here" but they did not.

The fact that charges were dropped was as much of a political decision as a reflection of a lack of case or poor policework.

If a crime was not committed then no jail. He was a butthole, no crime there.

So one was a jerk to police ( aka acting stupid) the other was acting unprofessional, (but I would argue that on scene he acted within the realm of professionalism, but I understand your statement). Nothing for the national media, and Al Sharpton or the President of the US to even be involved in.

Yes it is when you are doing it to a police officer responding to a call in front of on-lookers. None of us were there but just being on private property isn't an excuse either. You don't get to yell at police officers for free.

I don't see in here anything about not being obligated to cooperate with the police.

Listen, no one has to do anything, including cooperate with John Q. Law, but if you're black, white, green, or purple, and you start yelling at a cop and acting belligerent, chances are you're going to jail for disorderly.

Not to long ago one of my co-workers thought it was perfectly fine and legal to cuss out a police officer. I said it was obstruction of justice in her situation. In the professor's situation, (dropping f-bombs, and saying things about the cops mother in front of God and everyone on his front lawn), then I would say it's disturbing the peace. We had a heated discussion about cussing out cops. Someone asked my supervisor what he thought. He said, "Try it and see what happens."

As for the man who spent an entire week talking about his own ass, I have to turn him off from time to time. Make no mistake about it, Glen, as well as most of conservative talk radio recognize the creeping socialism and fascism that has crept into our system over the years. As Jonah Goldberg would say, "it's Fascism with a smiley face."

I think there are a lot of reasons why people should be concerned with Obama's policies. For example, some reasonably suggest that we could be facing massive inflation within the next few years. However, people who think Obama is fascist and invoke images of 1930s-style dictatorships don't have a good grasp of history. But, I suppose, in today's politics, no one listens unless you are slinging inflammatory accusations and calling "the other guy" Hitler, Stalin, or Skeletor.

Charges dropped not reasonable. Police chase criminals, no criminals here.

Professionalism: unpleasasnt law abiding citizen, oh well time to go to Dunkin Doughnuts. Charges dropped, I arrested a person who did not commit a crime. This is America!! Stupid stupid stupid. Besides Ogeltree promised statements from individuals who have dealt with Crowely before with similar results. Obama tells Ogletree chill out let it go. Dr. Gates you need to chill too.
