Re: Zorn On The Hot Seat
Not everyone Tee. The loudest, or in this case, the ones who write the most, are the most heard. To answer what the thread asks, I think what you should expect is for a coach to come in and implement a system that will benefit the team towards being successful. I think the coach should be given the time to put such a system in place, obtain players he wants, and allow it enough time to see if the team can comprehend and flourish in it. I think to hire an inexperienced HC to do such a thing without a reasonable amount of time to do it is unreasonable and foolish.

That's why the thread was created because no one is asking why Zorn has such a short leash being a first time head coach. That's also something that has irritated me as of late because I'd hate to think our front office has the same sentiment/expectations as our fans. This year and last would be fruitless if Zorn was just a two year filler coach while we waited for the availability of the big name coaches for the big splash in 2010. Needless to say that is gross mishandling of management and personnel by the front office if that is the case.

Re: Zorn On The Hot Seat
Fans are not stupid, but they act pretty irrationally a good portion of the time. But that's fine, that's what fans do. The danger is when ownership does that. But anyway, we don't have Fassel in large part due to he and Vinny simply not being able to work together more than anything else. The fans' protest of the hiring has been way overblown.

He's also on the hot seat because there is an unsual amount of talented superbowl winning HC coaches available. Billick, Cowher, Holmgren and Shanahan all have superbowl championship rings. Holmgren was the architect of the Seattle's WCO that Zorn knows and is installing here. Shanahan is a veteran in the WCO with the Broncos and goes all the way back to his days as an OC with the 49ers w/ Joe Montana/Steve Young and Jerry Rice. Zorn is like an associate instructor in the WCO these guys are like the Dean's of the WCO. As much as i like Zorn and want him to succeed, there is no doubt in my mind that Holmgren or Shanahan could come in here right know and not change a thing except take over playcalling and we would win more games. The question is are we gonna let Zorn grow and be pateint or are we gonna swicth HC and hope that the change doesn't set us back? |

I don't think we need to start from scratch. There is talent on this team. Re-tool maybe, re-start-no. Granted i think that Shanny and Holmgren would be better then Zorn. But at some point they were in Zorn's shoes and we've got to give Zorn a chance to become a better coach. |

Elway made Shanahan. He didn't win much of anything after Elway retired.

Re: Zorn On The Hot Seat
C'mon man.
Seahawks didn't have their starting QB for a good portion of the year. They lost almost every one of the receivers to a major injury. -BTW Quote:
Shanny had the #4 offense in the league! -BTW as a HC and as an OC You can knock these guys for their GMing debacles but there brilliance on the offensive side of the ball is without question. |

Re: Zorn On The Hot Seat
In Mosley's column about whether Zorn will last the season he recalls another NFC East coach who barely held on to his job after the 06 season. Tom Coughlin went on to coach the Giants to a win in the Super Bowl.

We have to deal with the parameters in front of us and not rely on patterning our team around the wonderful stories of yesteryear. Lets bring in a competent staff and have them pattern a competitive scheme for our team instead of patterning our team upon previous success stories.
