Re: Washington Capitals 2009-2010 ongoing thread
Don't know if this belongs in the drunk thread because I'm still a little buzzed. But what a win. Great game to go see. There was a big showing of caps fans. It was a blast.

It was great to see some good goalie play. Especially in the second and third during the PPs. Although I think SJ was very tired from all the PKs in the first.

I wish we could hold leads and not let teams back into games. I'll take a s/o win, we usually don't excel in those.

Re: Washington Capitals 2009-2010 ongoing thread
My friend actually got tickets in the 10th row behind the goal for the Caps/Thrashers game but seeing as I'm 200 miles from Atlanta right now I wasn't able to go. Otherwise I would have been their in a heartbeat. One things for sure, I'm going to try to go on January 9th when they come back.

Re: Washington Capitals 2009-2010 ongoing thread
Last pm was a good game. What a fluke 150' skipper goal by Schlutz...but we'll take it.
Got a little to interesting late in the third. Once again with all the penalties, GOTTA PLAY SMARTER. But got outta there with a win. Nice to see the second and third guys step up. GO CAPS!!!!!

Re: Washington Capitals 2009-2010 ongoing thread
Huge win last night. A few of my friends are raging flyers fans and they all were in attendence to the CAPS 5th straight.
I have to say... Theodore played lights out last night.

Re: Washington Capitals 2009-2010 ongoing thread
I watched the 2nd half of the 2nd period last night, and was a bit dismayed when the Caps couldn't score during their 1:40 second 5 on 3 (to Philly's credit, they played some awesome defense), then went down 2-0 9 seconds into the next Flyers Power Play. Then Ovie and Backstrom struck to tie the game at 2 going into the 2nd Intermission. Now I'm wishing we had watched the 3rd period (Wife had the remote, ended up watching some DVR stuff because she freaks out when it's about 60% full).

Re: Washington Capitals 2009-2010 ongoing thread
Lets see if we can keep it going tonight and get that 6th.
Welcome back FLASH! LETS GO CAPS!!!!! Posted at 6:17 PM ET, 10/29/2009 Tonight's lineup: Caps at Thrashers (Updated) Semyon Varlamov will start in goal tonight against the Ilya Kovalchuk-less Thrashers at Philips Arena. Ondrej Pavelec will get the nod in Atlanta's net. Varlamov will be looking to improve to 5-0-0 (as well as raise his .884 save percentage), while the Caps will be seeking to win six in a row for the first time since the middle of last season. The rest of the lineup should look like this: Forwards Ovechkin-Backstrom-Semin Laich-Morrison-Knuble Fleischmann-Aucoin-Clark Sloan-Steckel-Bradley Scratches: Laing (H1N1), Fehr (ribs) Defense Morrisonn-Green Poti-Jurcina Schultz-Pothier Scratches: Erskine (bruised hand) Goalies Varlamov Theodore Update:Nik Antropov (groin) is on the ice for warmups. So it looks like he's a go for ATL. Check back for more after the game.

Re: Washington Capitals 2009-2010 ongoing thread
Can't wait until we face the Blue Jackets team again. There will be revenge!
I wish the CAPS would have found a way to keep the BRASH! IMO with this star studded lineup you need at least one true enforcer! Posted at 10:48 AM ET, 11/ 4/2009 Poll: Does targeting stars go too far? Yesterday, Blue Jackets Coach Ken Hitchcock told reporters that he did indeed tell his players to target Alex Ovechkin -- "Run, chase, hunt down, hit, whatever word you want to use that would be correct," he said -- in their game against the Caps on Sunday. "That's the name of the game," Hitchcock said. "Why, is that against the rules now?" Is it? Not exactly, but Ed Frankovic argues that one specific incident did cross the line: Well yes Ken, jumping a guy by your bench during a stoppage in play is against the rules and using the words "hunt down" to describe it is even more despicable and is a disgrace to sports and the NHL. In fact, this whole incident, from the punch by Jason Chimera to the mugging by Jared Boll to Hitchcock's comments, has no place in the league and Gary Bettman and Colin Campbell need to come down hard on the Blue Jackets for this incident IMMEDIATELY, because if they don't then their game is going to become a joke very quickly. Commenters have gone both ways, from being outraged to agreeing with Hitchcock and expressing desire for the Caps to do the same (against, say, Sidney Crosby and the Pens). So here's an extremely unscientific poll:

Re: Washington Capitals 2009-2010 ongoing thread
Hockey is a violent sport and Ovie is the games best player. He'll always have a bullseye on him. Let's not forget, he goes after the oppositions best players fast and hard all the time. We shouldn't bitch when other teams do the same.
The dirty stuff after the play was crap by the Blue Jackets, but I have no issue with their coach telling his players to go after Ovie. You really think Boudreau never says that about Crobsy, etc?

Re: Washington Capitals 2009-2010 ongoing thread
Time to stomp NJ tonight.
We need a big win without Ovi, and I suggest we emphasize defense this game. We all know that we can score goals, but I think this team really needs to focus more defensively. The big number to look for tonight? Shots on goal. Lets eliminate shots on goal, play smart penalty free defense, and work on the penalty kill. Why not bring up someone from Hershey to mix things up a bit. If our identity is simply a team that's all offense, we're done come playoff time. As always. Rock the RED.
