i agree but thats alot of money the DS would just have to shell out to CP (6-7 mil guar) to not be a part of this team ala b lloyd.

i vote no, shoot its not my money that i pissed away, eat it DS and move on.

The money tossed around is incredible, I mean DS is already eating 2.4 mill for JZ, I wonder what if any is owed to VC, so if another 6-7 is needed to get rid of CP, and that is what his executive vice presidents think needs to be done, than it's got to be a no questions asked deal on Snyder's part. This is one of those moves that should solely be MS/BA's call, and Snyder just needs to smile and move on, much like when Deion went good bye.

That's what he gets for running my franchise into the dirt.

not the for the money he is making. He needs a pay cut and conditioning/ practice clause in his new contract. When in shape he's a top 5 back. He hasn't been in trully great shape since Gibbs left.

He's got a lot of guaranteed money coming to him next year, so I don't see where he would have any incentive to take a cut. Unless you restructure him but that's not going to happen.

I want he gone as soon as possible. The guy just don't have it anymore. Plus I and other Redskin fans are getting tired of his mouth. He's out stayed his welcome here.

Re: Do you want Portis back next season?

I think we can all come to the consensus that he is no longer the dominant back that he once was and we don't want him if a younger, cheaper RB can be slotted into Shanahan's system.

HOWEVER, for cap reasons, we have to keep him around for at least another year unless he agrees to restructure his contract.

Just food for thought...Portis is second on the Redskins all time rushing yards list and is a year removed from essentially a 1500 yard season...throwing him out to pasture despite his recent comments might be a little too hasty

Re: Do you want Portis back next season?

we played a very fine line with the cap by being creative and restructuring contracts for years. we have restructured contracts to portis, ARE, samuels, moss(?) and probably some others. one day all that future guaranteed money had to stack up. by the grace of something holy it looks like we get a cap-free, purge yourself of bad contracts season coming to us.

i honestly think the DS for the past year or 3 (def the AH contract) has planned for this uncapped year and made big moves with the thought in mind as to what kind of flexibility in that contract he would have come 2010. if he did, bless him its pretty savy imo but thats a costly "do over".

Re: Do you want Portis back next season?

#1 there will be no CAP next year so next year will be the time to shed all big contracts. I even wonder if they will find a way to pay off the majority of AH's contract and rework whats left to a lower amount so it doesn't hurt our CAP in the future. (Portis)I don't think he has the work ethic Shanahan will expect or want from him.

#2 In Shanahan's system I think everyone knows by now that he can plug just about anyone in as a RB and get better results then most other teams. Most other teams must have an exceptional RB to get the job done, not Shanahan.

#3 I also hope we get away from the back loaded contracts in the future. Stop "restructuring" contracts so they are majorly back loaded.

Edit: Sorry I had to edit so people would know I was refering to Portis and not AH.

Re: Do you want Portis back next season?

Easy question. Dump Portis. He's too old for an RB (29yo next year), everyone hates him in the locker room, he doesn't practice, and runs his mouth. His comments against Jason Campbell were way off, and JC came back at him HARD. I loved to see that fight in JC, and I just felt sad for Portis. Once a loved yellow-haired icon, Portis has become a virus.

Portis has become worse than T.O. and we don't need that for $6 million or whatever he's due. Save money and headache. Betts can pick up his slack, and the guy off the street - Ganther -- could partially fill his shoes.

It's also a great way to get the locker room's attention.

Re: Do you want Portis back next season?

Well, I'm so tired of hearing Portis's mouth on ESPN980 (The John Thompson Show) and I'm ready for the third straight year to get rid of him. We (or rather Joe Gibbs) traded a first rate gentleman as well as a Hall of Fame CB (Champ Bailey) for a loud mouthed showoff. The Skins had a better running game without Portis this season. Cut ties with him and bring in somebody who wants to play.

^ I agree with you however I'm on the youth movement kick. I know Betts has been a team player and Rock is a captian but I'd cut them also and either keep Ganther who played as good if not better, Alridge as our change of pace back, and let Shanahan pick up someone he thinks he needs for his system and see how all three play out. I'm guessing Ganther will supprise if Shanahan can get the OL fixed and up to speed with his blocking scheme.
