Re: Raiders release JaMarcus Russell
It will never happen. JaMarcus doesnt appear to even have the ability. Failed QB's that enjoy a career re-surgance usually have good basic skills, coupled with a good team that can mask their deficiencies. The best example i can think of is Trent Green. He was mediocre at best, but finally found success with Kansas City's punishing running game, and at-that-time brilliant offensive playcalling...he had a good base set of skills to thrive on a great team.

Re: Raiders release JaMarcus Russell
It doesnt seem like Russell really cares about playing professional football. I think he's happy having gotten paid an obscene amount of money. If ever decides he wants to play football again, the AFL might be his only option (does it even still exist?). I dont think he could make a CFL or UFL roster.

Re: Raiders release JaMarcus Russell
There are guys who really care about football and want to be one of the best. They really get off on the game. There are guys who only want to be rich. I think Russell falls in the latter category.

Shame because the guy has the physical tools to be one of the greatest ever. Can't make someone like football though.

Re: Raiders release JaMarcus Russell
This might be the best thing for Russell. He needs to be humbled. It just seems that he wasn't mature enough to handle the responsibility that comes w/ being a starting NFL QB. He needed another year in school. But it's hard to blame him when he was going to be a top 5 pick.

Re: Raiders release JaMarcus Russell
I wouldn't mind bringing him in for an extra arm for mini-camps and Training camp. And if #15 can't beat out Russell in those camps/preseason, then he doesnt deserve to play for us anyway. Im actually a big fan of #15 but id let the best man win.
Jimbo Fisher (with LSU with Russell and now of Florida State fame) said he was a smart player, would go up to the line with 3-4 audibles. And that same performance is what made him an overall #1 pick in the 1st place. Who the hell was Russell's offensive coordinators in Oakland? Greg Knapp? Who? And last year they DIDNT EVEN HAVE an offensive coordinator. If you watch sum lowlights of the raiders last season, theres like 3 receivers in the same area on MOST plays. OF COURSE your gon throw interceptions if you let the defense cover everyone with less men, if all the receivers go to the same zone. All im sayin is Brennan is turning 27 in August. Thats pretty old for a developmental QB. Jamarcus is two years younger, and Donovan McNabb LOVES tutoring african american quarterbacks. Not to mention, the Shanahan's are PHENOMENAL offensive coordinators So if Russell could beat out Brennan (needs to get in shape, attitude towards being good), then so be it. LONG LIVE COMPETITION~

IF Brennan can't beat Russell in camp that would be extremely sad at this point. THen it would be Frerotte>Russell>Brennan. Pretty dam pathetic if your scenario goes down. Frerotte would be better than our 3rd string QB and the last time I heard he is at home. In short, we would be better served in bringing Frerotte back than Russell. |
