Re: F....Cigarettes
I'm not asking for anyones pitty I simply said I feel sorry for them. On a side note I understand the second hand smoke issue. But I feel that if I wanted to open up a bar with the understanding that it's for smokers but other may attend I should not be hindered by the state gov. telling my business can't have smokers ...inside. It's one thing to go to the bar which is set up for everyone and people having to put up with second hand smoke, but a business should be able to cater to smokers and with the knowledge that it caters to smokers not force them to smoke outside.
I hope I see the day that when smoking is finally banned, these groups turn their attention to alcohol. Alcohol kills also folks. A lot faster then smoking does. Between drunk drivers and pickled livers I can honestly see this being the next hurdle. But don't think your going to have the smokers simpathy when more of our rights start being eroded for the "better cause." Whats my answer for the issue? I don't know. when I was younger I suggested business having a designated smoking area. The smokers got it..... they got pushed outside into the weather, rain, snow, heat, or cold. Now looking for the cheaper insurance business are taking on no smoking on the property period. I guess this forces the smoker to decide if he wants to keep his job or not, especially if he does not want to quit smoking. But to tell business that they can't open a business catering to smokers to give them a place to eat, or a bar to hang out, or simply a lounge (these tobacco shops), is obserd. I'll gladly pay the higher insurances and open a bar for smokers..... but the gov. says no because of laws passed saying no smoking indoors period. |

Re: F....Cigarettes
No one is going to feel sorry for smokers. They can eat shit and die and this is coming from a former 3.5 pack a week smoker.

No I don't feel sorry for the young smokers. We are a more educated society. But our elderly should be treated better. |

If you smell smoke inside it is not because its on their clothes, unless they go outside to smoke in a phone booth. If the Wii controller is discolored than they are all smoking inside, that is a lot of smoke and is not transfering from their hands. Don't feel bad approaching them, they know they need to quit, they may get defensive because they are addicts, but they still know they need to quit. Throwing numbers and stats won't sway them more than likely, but helping them find a way to quit that works for them would mean more. Even though trying to help will probably illicit a defensive reaction at first. Just my $.02. ***at a state/city level. |

Re: F....Cigarettes
Don't get me wrong. I think smoking is horrid. I see what it's done to my mother. I'm not advocating smoking. All I'm saying is the gov is supposed to be a neutral body and instead they have sided with the non smokers and passed laws against smoking indoors and in some states smoking outside in public. I have the same issue with gun control and abortion. I hope the gov does not take sides with any one religious denomination cause this country was founded on freadom of religion. and before I get slammed for probably being a muslim simpathizer and thinking it's ok for the temple to be erected with 2 blocks of ground zero in NY... I'm not. I think although they should have the right, it's very distastefull on the muslim's part to want to erect a temple so close to the site. The next question is would it be ok if it was 4 blocks away? 8 blocks? How far away is ok? you know... since we are a country of religious freedom.

I was not making fun of anyone by saying touche. Anyone who quites smoking good for you honestly. but there are mill of people who most likely don't want to quit this expensive habit, but more importantly they are hooked. For some people it's easier to quit then others. I'll be honest, god forbid if anyone decides to attack Coca-Cola or Pepsi. lol. I drink soda breakfast, lunch, dinner, and in between. Is it bad for me... it's not helping my liver or kidneys. But I can relate with the smokers. Tell me I'll die if I keep drinking soda and I would continue drinking soda. |

Smoking is not a protected right by the Constitution, so the states or the people have a right to create a law that would ban or limit such actions as long as it does not violate its own laws. Gun ownership is protected by the Constitution so no state can pass a law banning such, legally. The debate about abortion is not if abortion should be legal, but about when life is created. Pro-Life = @ conception; Pro-Choice = @ birth. The point at which life is created and murder is commited is not clearly defined so the debate will continue making lawyers and lobbyists tons of cash for years to come. As long as the Muslim religous center is built within the confines of the law there is no reason to stop it. I am actually disgusted by so-called conservatives saying anything otherwise. I do think that the location is tasteless , but that does not mean much. |

Re: F....Cigarettes
LOL! For the record the reason the state bans smoking in a bar is becasue of the workers. If you are a non-smoking bartender why should you be forced to possible getting lung cancer. Everyone has the right to work in a safe environment, well at least on paper.

Didn't mean to thread jack and tried to keep it short. My original intent was to help with the IL having some insight to their side of things as well as years of experience with the effects of nicotine and tar on the immediate environment.

Re: F....Cigarettes
Religion is worse than smoking.
Smoking destroys the body, religion destroys the mind. Who said that?
