Re: Car Trouble, Need Advice
saden, have you considered leasing? If you're the type that always wants a "newer" vehicle that's going to be covered by warranty, it's not a bad idea. Keeps you from absorbing all of the depreciation.

Re: Car Trouble, Need Advice
It was sell our team danny boy and fire vinny!!!!!
Seriously though, Chris do you know what happened to the signs? Those things are pretty much collector items.... Yeah i like selling and buying my cars to persons and from owners. I bought one car from a dealership and it was a lemon (my old explorer). My latest car a 2006 accord i bought from the original owner and got the whole story about all 18k miles on it and why they were selling. Plus now a days you can get extended warrinites from the private companies and i even get offers from Honda every year or so. I know banks can be a little difficult to deal with, but credit unions basically specialize to writing car loans and offer great rates so that you can negotiate a price with a private seller, get the credit union to cut a check and pick up your car the same day if you have all your stuff in order. My car came with a warranty and i got it transferred into my name, and the only time i get work done at the dealership is when its been a warranty issue. All maintance (and hooking it up - i took the spoiler off, anyone want to buy a spoiler?) i do myself, but if i ever run into a problem i cant fix myself or if the warranty is expired the very last place i would bring it is a dealership. They just overcharge you big time and in many cases its a young kid learning the trade before he can get a job with a private shop. Also the only forums i belong to are thewarpath, driveaccord and a couple other unused car forms for cars that i used to own. Signing up for a car forum for any car you have is a must. Oh yeah and this really hot porn forum, but who doesnt belong to one of those.... Just my 2 cents............ i got no idea what could be wrong w your car

Check your motor mounts for the shaking.
Check your fuel pump and filters for the choking. Change the brakes. i dont think you need a power steering flush if it handles good.

Re: Car Trouble, Need Advice
I've been a truck man all my life. I've never had a car or SUV for myself. I guess i get it from my dad..
Anyway, my last couple used trucks have all been high mileage and they ran like a champ and were just super trucks. My dad also works as a professional mechanic in Martinsburg, WV, so he has always been on hand to help me keep stuff up and running, and the dealership has given me good prices on whole-sale and other high-mileage trade in trucks. My last few trucks: 1994 Ford Ranger XLT 4X4: 189,000 mile 1994 Dodge Dakota 4X4: 212,000 miles. 1997 Ford F150 4X4: 225,000 miles. My current truck, which was just paid off yesterday, is a 2006 Ford Ranger SCrew 4X4, with a 5 spd. It has 102,000 miles and has been running full synth. since it was new. no probs what so ever. should easily get 300K+ out of it...

My dad's boss told me one time that the 4.6, which commonly sees duty in police cruisers and taxi cabs, usually go around 400,000 miles before the companies take them down for a routine overhaul. They've done a few overhauls for the police, so i know its true. It just goes to show you that advertising and the dealerships make you think that a car is wore out at 150,000 miles. It's all to make you buy new cars. It's mechanics that tell the other story, of how cars run well into their 200 and 300 thousand mile range, as long as reguarly maintained. Go to ebay sometime, and type in work truck, and then search by highest mileage first. Many trucks on their that were fleet vehicles that have 300 thousand miles or more, and still running fine.....

Re: Car Trouble, Need Advice
I have never purchased a new car. The SUV I just purchased was a 2004 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer with 94,000 mile garage kept. I paid $6,500 cash and if I get 3 to 4 years good use then I have done good. The SUV looks almost like new and drives like new. I can easily afford a new car but to me its such a waist of money I would rather save it for retirement or something else. Same deal with the boats I have owned. I don't knock people who buy new cars it just not my fancy.

Re: Car Trouble, Need Advice
Its usually pretty easy to tell if a car has been misused by the prior owner and by checking it out or having someone inspect the car. I never buy a used car from a dealer because they can dress up a used car and you never get to meet the prior owner. I can usually tell within the first few minutes if I'd buy a car from someone. Its even easier if you go to their home and can see how their yard and surroundings look. When I purchased my wifes Yukon the guys yard was perfect, his garage was as clean as most peoples home, he pulled out a folder with all the SUV's records, and his other cars where spotless. I knew within 5 min I could buy a car from him we just had to decide if we liked the Yukon and price.
