Re: Mo' snow on the way

I think getting as far left or right as you can would suffice. From what I understand, people were leaving cars in the center lanes on 270 abandoned with traffic still moving around them. While shoulders might be hard to navigate to, it's better to try and move it out of the way. 8-10 inches, while a good amount of snow, should not leave the shoulders impassible. But then again I wasn't there and it's quite easy for me to play armchair quarterback.

Yeah, I think it is bad to leave cars in the center lane. However if you are pimping 13's on your Corolla, I doubt you would be able to move onto the shoulder.

If you live up 270 chances are you aren't pimping 13's or a corolla.

Whats the deal with all the stuck cars in 6 to 8 inches of snow? Was there something else going on that was making it tough driving? Snow that deep is actually not that hard to drive in and traction is usually not that bad.

Traffic was stop and go. Most of the cars that got stuck were at a dead stop and then tried to move up hill and could get any momentum or traction. They couldn't back up because it was bumper to bumper.

Re: Mo' snow on the way

It has to do with the rate of snowfall during rush hour. Bad combination.

Snow, you can drive in. They slushy ass mix of snow/ice/whatever the hell it is with water sure as hell doesn't provide enough traction for going up hills.

You're exactly right. The temperature was just at or even above freezing, so this wasn't powder that just gets brushed away. Like you said, this was slushy and thick and it just packed in on top of itself.

I drive a Jeep and for the most part last year I was able to drive over the snow to get out of my parking space (unless it was well over a foot, in which case I didn't even try) but when I tried to drive over this yesterday I just spun my wheels. I ended up having to dig a lot more than expected since it was so heavy.

One other thing, F' Pepco. Lost power at around 9ish during the storm and didn't get it back till 3-4PM Thursday. F' 'em. From Regents Drive southward on Route 1, NO ONE had power.

Re: Mo' snow on the way

Actually I was out in the boat in December when it started to snow pretty hard. We just cracked open a beer, hit the windshield wiper, cranked up the heater, and enjoyed the ride back in.

Re: Mo' snow on the way

Winter is officially outta control. 4-6 inches today, took me 2 hours to get to work (I only live 30 miles away). Tomorrow another 10-15 inches on the way.

Hooray
