My guess is Helu has the advantage, based on what I've heard so far (and what I'm sure everyone else has too). But it does seem that we're dismissing Royster awfully quickly. And I suspect that has as much to do with the fact he's a Penn State RB than anything else.

In the meantime, read more hatterade from the media on the Redskins (particularly Roy Helu)

That's informative insight but, until this team starts to find/develop/play late round gems, Royster is in the barrell with all the other previously wasted picks.

Penn St has nothing to do with it for me. I'm higher on Helu because he's much faster (possible home runs) and because I think he is a natural in Shanny's system. But if I am wrong and Royster kills it, then 3 cheers for him.

I thought the same earlier today. If Gaffney ends up being decent for us as 2/3 WR and Hightower contributes like everyone seems to think he can then we'd have traded Jarmon and Holliday...one guy who'd have been fighting for a spot and another who MAY have been fighting for a spot...for two starting offensive weapons. It's way too early to say really but when projecting it out those trades look about as good as can be in the NFL (value wise).

Hard to tell where he finds a spot barring a surprise cut.

Re: Depth Chart

I'd been hearing that Royster's strength seemed to be with pass blocking this summer...and then I read this

Redskins Roster Hopefuls: Evan Royster « CBS Washington

Seems like that's where he thinks he may have an advantage if he works hard at it

Re: Depth Chart

The Redskins carried four running backs at times last season right? Three active guys and one inactive?

I think Royster has the potential to make the roster as the fourth guy. If K-Wil really is moving to fullback, anyway. I think people are underestimating him, and what I've heard bout him coming out of camp has been mostly positive. And he has a leg up in blocking.

Torain's out, it seems, until at least week 2 with his injury. Boom. That's Royster's roster spot right there. He might at least be active that first game.

Helu's got the speed, but Royster's got the vision and the pass blocking. I think this is one of the more underrated position battles there is.

And it's been only recently that practice reports have included that drill, meaning probably hasn't been a primary focus until then

Re: Depth Chart

Keep in mind that Shanahan thinks of Evan as Terrell Davis.

Keep in mind that Shanahan declared that he trusted mike bell to be his guy in preseason, and then said it took 6 months for him to trust TD.
