Surprised to see a lot of Dishman mentions, he was great in Houston but barely a shell if that here. By the same token...no mention of Vernon Dean?

Kinda wish people would celebrate it and not try to bring the guy down.
He's made a number of really good plays while he's been here. The play in the first quarter against Baltimore was another really good play. I'm not going to remember him here for his individual great moments, which is a shame, because even guys who had short careers like Antonio Pierce, Lemar Marshall, and Ryan Clark all had a number of great moments here before signing elsewhere.

I'd point out that plenty of people have shown an excellent ability to forget Hall's most embarrassing plays as a Redskin, because it simply doesn't match up with their perception of him as a player. Sequences like the Baltimore TD-XP one are also pretty noticeable and unforgettable. But I guess it's easy to just pretend it never happened.

Funny stuff man.. Fred Smoot wasn't even a #1 or #2 CB, but he did manage to pop the roster in that spot because of the lackluster talent we had at this position for such a long time
Oh, you don't say?

That's how plenty of people feel about Hall.

Maybe I need to go back an watch this extra point. Because I don't remember it being so awful that I was like "damn where the hell is seal team 6 to off this mofo! Shit's got to end now or America will never be safe"

Okay, lets put it this way: if seal team 6 walked onto the field during the extra point and delayed the game/committed an obvious offside penalty, I would have been okay with that and/or cool to watch.

A player on the defensive team though? I think you're looking the other way because of who the player is. And I think a lot of people are doing the same thing.

Or maybe you're looking one way because of who the player is. I mean really, worse than anything Haynesworth ever did? Don't accuse others of letting personal feelings cloud their judgment while acting like it never clouds yours. We know you're better than that.

Or Martin Mayhew who was solid and left via FA.

Wait, who is the one here that is acting like personal feelings never clouds judgement?

Look, you have a weekly thread about things the Redskins can improve on, etc. I thought you brought up some good points. But you omitted (actually defended) Hall in the OP. So I added him. Then a big discussion ensued because I said Haynesworth in a post. My bad.

I was going to start a "the Redskins should release DeAngelo Hall thread" that would have been based on only a rational response to what happened in the game on Thursday and his value to the team going forward. I opted against it because I know how all D-Hall threads ends up. See above. People like you pretend his weaknesses on the field are some sort of necessary evil that we just need to deal with and people like me try to argue stuff like "DeAngelo Hall really isn't that much of a playmaker to begin with."

I'm open to the idea that the answer is probably in the middle. But the culture of ignoring bad plays that DeAngelo Hall makes simply because of the man that makes them is not something that I need to honor in the name of being unbiased. It's actually quite the opposite.

I was not ever intending to compare Haynesworth off the field to Hall off the field. After work hours, it's not even a comparison. There is enough evidence to believe Albert isn't a good person off the field. I don't hear anything about Hall getting into trouble. That's why Haynesworth-Hall comparisons are unfair, it has nothing to do with on field play.

Re: Where does D. Hall rate as a CB for the Redskins all time?

Well I'm about to board a plane so I dont have time (nor desire) to get into it. But a) I did suggest this offseason that trading Hall should be considered. At least I think I did. And I wasn't exactly defending Hall. I said I love that he makes plays for us. My favorite play in football happens to be a pick 6, so when one of our players does it I happen to love it. At the sane time though, his aggressive style is not all that helpful if there's no steady hand on the other side of the field. Either Hall has to be more disciplined or Barnes,Wilson, or Buch has to be more reliable. Right now, in my opinion, our secondary is our biggest weakness.

As for this thread. He's not top 5.

Re: Where does D. Hall rate as a CB for the Redskins all time?

I love, love, love, when defenses score touchdowns. That was my big criticism of Blache's defense. When Hall ran in the TD to end the first half against Dallas, I was crazy-excited. We hadn't seen that play since 2007, when big-play Carlos Rogers picked off Jon Kitna and ran it back for the TD. When Hall did it again in Week 7 and totally changed the game, that was really cool. When he did it to Flacco on Thursday, that was also really cool. No one can possibly complain about Hall when he's running back an INT: he's probably going to score.

I agree with what Smoot wrote on Thursday night about the secondary being the team's biggest weakness. That was mostly true in 2009 and 2010 as well, with the only exception being that our offense was so weak during those seasons that as bad as our secondary was, we had worse units on the other side of the ball.

It's been weak back there ever since we cut Springs to give Hall a monster deal. Would Springs still be a major contributor on our 2011 team had we not cut him for Hall? No, of course not. We had to get younger sometime. But now that the other shoe (Rogers) has dropped, and we brought in a player stylistically similar (though, IMO, better) than Hall in Josh Wilson, I think we've completed a large downgrade on the outside that took three years to complete: we took our corners from a team strength under Grilliams to a team weakness under Haslett. And we're actually paying out more at the position now than we were before.

And I just don't think you can scheme around having a bottom ten pass defense with creative blitz packages. At some point, the secondary just has to get better.
