I think the contract ties the eagles into a long term deal with an injury waiting to happen...I am more than just okay with that!

Good for him. Glad he's turned his life around. He earned the raise. But I will never forgive what he did. Ever.

Lest we forget that the NFL is an entertainment industry. Vick, love him or hate him, is a dynamic player who attracts viewers for and against him. A game with Vick in it, is a game that more people will watch, which in turns drives ratings, memorabilia sales, jersey sales, attendance, etc. His Q-factor is worth the $100M and Jeff Lurie knows this as well as anyone, as does Goodell, who certainly went out of his way to give Vick a leg up back into the league.
The NFL is a business, and Vick is a money maker regardless of whether he wins you the game. He earned his contract... maybe not purely based on "field-performance" but he earned it no doubt. |

Since the Eagles traded DM and Kolb away, they essentially put all of their eggs in one basket. I believe they have not yet drafted the heir apparent. Vince Young is a huge gamble that may or may not pay off, but they do not have anyone else at that position. When it comes to Qb's the Eagles seem to have the old Joe Gibbs I ability to take almost any QB and have them be productive. I agree that they paid too much guaranteed money for a 30+ QB. 6yrs is a long time for a QB who makes his living with his legs. If I was Philly I would invest heavily in a top notch back up QB. |

No way he's able to finish out the 6 years. He may be playing in the latter years of the contract, but he may be forced to be more of a pocket passer than runner due to age and injuries...and won't be playing up to the level of his paycheck. He's a mediocre 55% career passer. He's also prone to mistakes with 66 fumbles and 58 INTs in his 80 career starts. Yes, he hits big plays but he also blows a lot of opportunities for his team, he's the ultimate gambler on the field. As he ages, the big play:mistake ratio will get uglier if he does not learn how to become a fundamental QB. Last year's passing stats are an anomaly over his career. We'll see if he can repeat them. Those numbers are also inflated due to his early hot start. Later in the season, his numbers were down. Consistency is not one of his traits. Even last season, defenses were figuring out how to defend him and were really minimizing his success. He also has played 16 games ONLY ONCE since 2001. Could this work out great short-term for Philly IF he stays healthy? Absolutely. Will they get their 6 years of greatness? Most likely not.

Landry has sustained a couple/few injures of concern (obviously the achilles most notably) so I'm not sure I'd call him injury prone yet...

Re: Mike Vick & Eagles agree 6yrs/$100 mil, $40 mil guaranteed
The guy is the most fun qb to watch of all time and one of the most exciting players of any position to watch. Last year when he started to really show that he has a extremely good and underrated arm and that he was willing to work hard to make good decision and become a complete qb mental and physically was awesome. The problem is i hate the egles more than any other team. But ive been a huge Vick fan since college. Its difficult for me to route against him, but as the QB of the eagles that’s all I will be able to do. I guess in a perfect world I would like him to have all sorts of great stats and highlights but have his team keep falling short. I like that the eagles overpaid him, because that’s bad for the eagles and good for Vick. I wonder if they continue to have oline problems (or end up with receiver problems) if he will follow the lead of other big time/money QBs and take a pay cut in order to bring in better o line help next year?
The guy is one of the most popular players in the league, and like all popular player he’s also one of the most hated (hatted) players too. I wonder how long until he gets a big endorsement deal….. its got to be coming soon.
