Cool Re: Around the NFL: Super Bowl Thread

Good story. It makes me wonder if a coach can be successful in today's NFL without the SOB mantra. It seems that in pushing players and staff, a coach has to be overbearing in order to be successful. These three guys are certainly devoted to that style/approach.

I would like to think there is still room for the Joe Gibbs philosophy, but I'm not sure about that. Probably never see his style replicated anyway, because in my mind, Joe Gibbs was one of a kind!

Well, truthfully he should have won more than he did. Gruden took his team and won the super bowl and he only managed 1 SB with that loaded team in Indy.

It does seem that the Parcells, Bellicheat, Shanahan, Jimmy Johnson, Nick Saban type of coaches are more successful. I attribute that to they hold their players accountable unlike a Wade Phillips or a Norv Turner.

Regardless, the guy won a lot of games in this league including a SB.

That he did, and you can't really take that away from him. I like the guy and I'd rather play for a Dungy than any of those other coaches I listed. Mostly because I would respond better to how he talked to me as compared to some of those other coaches.

Good example, but he probably does not win without Peyton Manning. But he did win one, so he deserves some credit for that.

Saw this poll in the Washington Post.

When will the Redskins win another Super Bowl? - Post User Polls - The Washington Post

Interesting to see the low percentage of Redskin fans who actually believe that we will win a Super Bowl within the next five years.

Nobody wins on their own.

Exception to the rule, Joe Gibbs.

One can say, he didn't win without the Hoggs.

...but yeah, to win the Super Bowl with 3 different QBs is pretty damn amazing.

That is amazing but back in the day the league wasnt as QB/pass driven as it is today. Teams were much more run first than they are today and Gibbs had a huge O-lins and a great RB in Riggo and very good RBs in Riggs & Byner.
