We won the NFC East last year (with a rookie QB and RB no less) and folks are thinking now is time to see if we can get deeper into the playoffs. I doubt Shanallen are thinking of storing guys on the PS as part of a rebuilding project for future seasons. The future is now. I expect Shanallen to select the players that they think can get us to win the most games right now.
This was a deep DB draft class. Your draft position and how good you are don't necessarily go hand-in-hand. Not to mention the fact that Shanahan said the safeties the Skins drafted were rated 9/10 and 10/10 respectively by the Skins. They are all making the team.

I expect Crawford to be a solid starter by the end of the season and unseat Josh Wilson.

Re: An early look at potential camp battles.

I don't know about Crawford. He showe some good things but also showed a propensity to be out of position quite a bit. I do not expect him to unseat Wilson any time soon and honestly Wilson is the most solid of all of our DBs. I don't expect him to be unseated by anyone this year. DHall MAY be a candidate for that tag though.

As far as Bernstine goes, honestly I didn't see enough of him to form an opinion. Also it will be hard for him to get better by leaps and bounds when this year will essentially be his rookie year. He was hurt game one so all of that game experience that helps rookies make the leap he missed.

It happens. I just go with it. Not saying he will be the greatest Redskin on Mount Rushmore, but I think he will come through and have a good season.

Although they might not start right away I think they'll all be in the mix early and often.
Agreed. Both the safeties are "safe" type players to me. At worst they're average to decent starters at some point barring injury. Amerson has the highest ceiling but may be the only one with real bust potential...but he'll have ever opportunity to be our third corner.

That would be a sweet outcome.

I know they loved him out of camp last year but he didn't play well early in the season and only played ok at the end. His smarts and approach can only do so much and appear to not be enough to overcome his skill deficiencies.

To the bolded part... Thats just a mirror image of all of our DB's last year, as well as the rest of the defense. The defense started going much more disguised blitzes later in the year, and the defense as a whole improved late.

To the not bolded part... While I didnt review film of Crawford nor did I know exactly what defense was called, but a lot of what I saw last year with Crawford seemed more about him being out of position. More about him reading the play late, therefore arriving late. It seemed more about his smarts than his skill. Could be wrong but thats what it seemed like to me. I suspect that he will play faster this year, although im not claiming he will improve enough to start without injuries dictating it.

Jordan Reed vs South Carolina 2012 - YouTube

I also put this in the draft wrap up thread. Really shows how versatile he is and what he brings. I think he ends up being our number 2 TE through camp if he can stay healthy. Guy is an athlete. Yes, he has to shore up his blocking but Fred Davis needed to do that as well when he came out.

Previewing the Players on Redskins' Roster Bubble | Bleacher Report[/QUOTE]

Bleacher has Royster, J.Pugh, Gomes, A. Gettis and A. Robinson on the bubble. I am unsurprised by Royster, Pugh or Gomes and would not be surprised if none make the roster based on last year's performance, the crowd at their positions and this year's draft (when they pick two guys at your position - a message is being sent).

Gettis - I had hopes for him based on his pedigree and his draft reports. But, his reviews never seemed to stand out, never heard any one say that he was impressive or stood out (unlike LeRibeus for example). He may get a pass this year or he may just be the next Eric Cook. I thought he might have a leg up on Mo Hurt, but am now thinking it might be the other way around as Hurt can play tackle and guard.

Robinson - agree with Bleacher Report, he is pretty much a one trick pony. I would bet he makes the roster over Henderson or Stallworth but it would be a tiny, tiny bet.

Re: An early look at potential camp battles.

Yeah to get this thread going again, I think that Gomes, Pugh, Royster are all bubble guys. Gettis I think makes the roster. And Robinson I don't get because he can run slants, drags, hitches and deep routes very well, IMO and I think he'll be the replacement for Moss after this year.

EDIT

I agree with all these except Reed Doughty

Royster-Definitely on the bubble. His best bet is either they keep 2 FBs and he stays on as a backup to DY. Or Helu gets hurt again, they don't sign another veteran, and decide they need to have a vet other than Morris in the backfield roster,

Pugh-I like him, think he stays at least early on in the season

Gomes-Unless he totally beasts on special teams this summer and proves indispensable there, he's gone

Gettis-Practice squad

Robinson-Needs to improve his blocking, and not just be a speedster. I think bringing Henderson (a speedster who blocks) in was a message to Robinson. But Shanahan loves him and he's likely to stay

What are the chances that the League allows for a larger roster with the emphasis on more active players in order to mitigate the injuries we hear so much about?

Not this season, obviously.
