Re: Matt Jones

selling on jones too... not worth a first round pick, DEFINATELY not worth the #9 pick... he hasn't done a lot as a WR yet, his hands could be questionable, and there's more to being a WR than speed... you have to get seperation, know where to be etc... he just doesn't seem like the kind of guy thats going to enter the league with guns blazing... BMW isn't gauranteed, but his chances are much much MUCH higher...

Charley Taylor was a RB who did OK as a WR - or am I remembering wrong?

Paul Hornung was a QB at Notre Dame but is in the HoF as an NFL RB.

Calvin Hill was a fullback in college (Yale no less) and an All-Pro TE in the NFL.

I was kidding about taking him as a CB. After all the glowing remarks about his physical prowess, it seemed to me that you could project him there too.

But I wan't kidding about waiting a LONG time to draft him if you think he's your QB of the future - - because I don't think he'll ever be a big time NFL QB.

SC, I think you mean WR nobody wants him as a QB that I know of.

Personally I wouldn't touch the guy in the first rd, and that charactor report really raises my eyebrows.

Re: Matt Jones

Another tid bit. We all know that coach Gibbs is a devout Christian, so here is another reason for him to like Matt Jones:

(I just wonder if the author is related to Coach Gibbs)

http://www.christianitytoday.com/spo...mattjones.html

Up Next: Matt Jones
Quarterback, Football, University of Arkansas. Junior, Age 20.
compiled by Jim Gibbs

In 2001, Jones turned in one of the most prolific freshman campaigns in UA history. After sitting out the first three contests, he appeared in the final eight games and split time with Zak Clark at quarterback. He led the team with an average of 108.4 yards of total offense per game and accounted for 31.6 percent of the Hogs' total offense in the final seven games. Jones was the second-leading rusher on the squad with 592 yards and five touchdowns on only 74 attempts. Set new UA quarterback rushing yardage record (a team-high 74.0 ypg). Recorded two 100-yard rushing games.

But that wasn't all. He also played on the Razorbacks' basketball team, averaging four points and two rebounds per game. His father, who played football at Ouachita Baptist University, is a coach. Matt is enrolled in the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences and is majoring in political science. He would like to run for political office some day.

In the Razorbacks media guide, Jones noted that the person he would like to have dinner with is, "Jesus. Just to be in his presence would be awesome."

Highlight: "I've really had a lot of fun with sports over the years, especially playing college football. But as strange as it may sound, one of my greatest sports highlights was when I was playing basketball in the fifth grade and I kept begging my teacher to come to one of my games. She finally came, and I didn't play very well early in the game. But later I hit the game-winning shot, and it really meant a lot to me that she was there."

Top Verse: Psalms 37:4

His Story: "I was 7 years old, and I went to a church service. The preacher was talking about how, without Christ, a person would go to hell. I didn't want to go to hell, so I accepted Christ. For me, it was just that simple. And over the years, that relationship with Christ has gotten stronger and stronger."

Key ingredient: "I think it's important to surround yourself with strong Christians you can share your problems with and who can help hold you accountable for things."

Goal: "I'd like to start a Christian camp out in the woods for kids of all ages some day. It would help get a lot of kids out of the city for a week or two and let them see nature."

Well it seems that might have cleared up any charactor issues that were being reported, sounds like a kid right up Gibbs ally.

As for TE JH, if you get a chance in 1 of the threads you will see him running for a TD he's a lean guy not a lot of bulk, even though his stats say TE if you look at his actual body type you will see this kid is meant to be a WR, he looks like a guy who could dominate CB's and safeties, and would get laid out if he had to start blocking DE's and LB's on a regular basis, 4.38 40 is tremendous speed for a WR no sense in wasting it moving him to TE, especially now that we have Cooley who really can play TE or H-back.

Re: Matt Jones

Yeah, tight end he is actually a little on the light side. Didnt we read that he responded to that very comment at the combine. An exec asked him what he thought about converting to TE. His response:

"I can put on 15 lbs and run a 4.5-6 instead of a 4.4." The exec agreed with him.

Cooley has 25 pounds on him! He is too small for a TE! Besides he is faster than Terrell Owens!

Re: Matt Jones

Maybe I didnt word that right. He doesnt want to be a tight end. I dont want him to be a tight end. He would dominate any and all cornerbacks. Sean Taylor would knock him on his ass, that would make his height pointless.

Re: Matt Jones

everyone on this board knows I want him on the team even if it means stock pilling pick and as the last player in the first round similar to what we did with Ramsey.

Re: Matt Jones

On the footage, the analyst did say how he lines up as an H-back. Does he even show willingness to become a better blocker?
