Can't Taylor Jacobs return punts as well?

Re: Brown released, Nick Novak signed

I spoke earlier on another thread that Gibbs would change Brown sooner than later. When Brown fumbled the ball, he didn't exhibit any disgust with himself. Maybe he had a lecture with Danny before the game. Maybe he knew his ass was a goner.

returners are thrash, betts, moss and parsons (PS)... betts more for kickoffs, thrash can do either and its as important to the O as moss or betts, moss is best with punts...

gotta give gibbs some credit for having balls... he's decided he has to walk the walk to prove his point.

This is business and thank god Gibbs means business.
I hoped Brown would eventually make up for that horrible fumble at the Dallas game last season. But he really never did. Dropped passes in preseason and fumbled the first KO of the 2nd half in our home opener. Gone. Wish him the best, but he should be gone.
Is Farris on the practice squad?
I think we need a WR in the next week or so.

It's all clear now. Think about it, in the same week Ramsey is benched we get rid of our fastest return man...Ramsey is going to return punts! Why didn't I think of this before. Blazing speed, ability to elude tacklers, sure hands. Brilliant move.

I wonder who we will bring in once our kicker thing is resolved. Bring back Farris? Bring back Brown? It will be interesting.

I bet we get Betts to return kicks, he's pretty good at finding a seam and getting some yards. Brown never made the moves necessary to make the first guy miss. I kinda wish we still had Morton around, he got positive yardage every play.

Novak is the bandaid that will cover Hall until that quad is either healed, or surgically replaced ala 6 Million Dollar Man (complete with sound effects). He's a great kicker, and if he doesn't stay here in DC, hopefully this audition will have him catch on somewhere.

Brown didn't stand a chance. He had a lousy preseason with returns, and the fumble was the straw that broke the camel's back. They are banking with the bye week coming up that Hall is ready for Week 4, they release Novak and pick up a receiver, whether it's Parson or someone on the waiver wires.

I just wish he didn't fair catch 90% of the time our STs weren't that good under SS though.

Can't say our special teams are all that good right now. They did steadily improve last season, finishing with some strong performances in the final few games, but there were too many mindless penalties from those units this preseason. It's a real pity that Hall got hurt; he did a solid job splitting the uprights last week.

Re: Brown released, Nick Novak signed

hmm, maybe the reason brown was released tied in to signing another kicker. they needed to release one player to make room for john hall's replacement until he's ready, brown fumbled a kick return, so they got rid of him. maybe hall's injury tied into him being released, not just the fumble.

it wasn't. we would've shut out new york the second time we played them if it wasn't for the kick return for a td. we might've had a better shot of winning the baltimore if we hadn't let them return a punt for a td. so yes, there is room to improve.

Exactly. Hall might be hurt, but as far as coverage, we improved by leaps and bounds.

Returning may be taking a turn for the better since Brown is gone. I hate saying that but I start to think about his ACTUAL games and not preseason ones. Betts has always been a good return man and Thrash doesn't do so bad himself.

I'd love to see Moss back there one or two punts against the Cowboys though.
