Re: Redskins vs. Steelers Preseason Pre-Game Thread
our top 4 WRs are moss, jabar, donte, and AA. if banks stays too (which i think he will), then #5 is hankerson, and we send 1 or 2 to the short bus. I don't see us cutting donte for austin or the other scrubs. he can be a 100yd/game guy, he just tends to get hurt too much. paul and royster are safe on the PS I'd imagine.
the hit list right now is s graham, aldrick, kelly (too many other people did enough at a tough spot), and sellers (paulsen/young did well). the weakest spot we'll have make the roster is one of the backup OLs, cause we need one more good player than we have. it'll be interesting to see the new roster/position shake out though, now that special teams are a bit less important and injuries have (supposedly) been reduced, that might move a LB and DB spot to be filled by another position. |

Re: Redskins vs. Steelers Preseason Pre-Game Thread
I'm sure there will be some cuts that us fans will not agree with but I seriously doubt Hankerson will be cut. Shanny likes hard workers and from all indications Hank is a hard worker. He has a lot of potential and as others have said would be picked up from our PS rather quickly. T.O. has dropped passes his whole career. (Especially when he heard Sean Taylor's footsteps. ) I think he'll be fine as long as it doesn't become mental with him like it did with Carlos Rogers.

He proved himself to be a legitimate deep threat last season when he caught 44 passes for 871 yards - that is an impressive 19.8 yards per catch. He scored 3 TD's, converted 32 1st downs, made 15 plays of 20+ yds and 7 plays of 40+ yards. What more could you have expected of him as a No. 3 receiver? Let's compare those stats to his competition for the No. 3 spot: The score is one nice season for AA and exactly squat in the NFL for his competitors. Now that we've gotten that out of the way, let's get serious about who might really get cut or make the team at WR. First of all, if Brandon Banks stays healthy, then he is also a lock. He is the most dynamic player on the team and he could become the best KR in the entire NFL. We need him to give us good field position and to break a couple of returns for TD's. Danny Smith might have to kill somebody to keep Banks on the roster. To be honest, Banks is not a WR - he is a return man. He doesn't have a position on offense or defense. He's just a player the Skins need to keep because of his exceptional ability on Special Teams. So, if he stays (and he will if he is healthy), then somebody else on the roster has got to go, but that somebody doesn't necessarily need to be a WR or even an offensive player. Players who can play multiple positions may factor into who gets cut in order to keep Banks. That's why I don't count Banks as a WR for purposes of determining which WR's make the team. Before trying to determine which WR's make the roster, we need to understand where the team is in terms of its development. I say we're rebuilding. As much as rebuilding may be a dirty word at Redskins Park, that is in fact what is happening there. So that is bad news for anyone who is not a starter and who is not a young player in NFL terms. To me, that means Donte Stallworth. Right now, I think that Stallworth is a better, more polished WR than the men he is competing against. But, due to his age (30) and lack of production in the NFL, that won't help him to stick unless at least a couple of his competitors for a WR job flop badly in preseason. I think he'll probably be cut and, if he has a good preseason, be picked up by another team. Malcolm Kelly is just about gone. I think that he must play in the second preseason game and impress to have any shot at all. Even then, Gaffney and possibly Hankerson can do what Kelly does and Kelly's injury history is still looming over him, so I think he'll be cut. Hankerson will probably make it because of his potential alone, even if he is horrible in preseason. I think we'll keep five WR's. Moss, Gaffney and Armstrong are certainly going to make it. Hankerson will also be on the roster although he may not be the actual 4th WR. That job may go to either Terrance Austin or Niles Paul, probably Austin. |

Every time I see Austin play, I'm impressed with him. I say he makes the roster unless he starts to stumble badly, or if injury occurs.

Soul Skins there was a thread earlier that had the headline about media "Hatters" and everyone sort of ran on that for a while, just trying to keep it alive brother! And now you know, and knowing is half the battle.

He's good insurance against an injury, but Terrence Austin is playing in front of him for a reason.

Re: Redskins vs. Steelers Preseason Pre-Game Thread
I just watched the game, and I must say, I was shocked to see the team was playing at such a competitive level. I was completely expecting an offensive meltdown with multiple turnovers by average QBs new WR's and young and new RBs.
I also expected major assignment error on the Oline...particularly in the interior due to the changes. Defensively, I was impressed with how the line played with no real game reps together...especially with a couple starters playing positions they have never played such as OLB and NT. And I was never a believer in Grossman...but I guess he does have some ability to make things happen in this particular offense. Overall...it seems that there has been significant improvement in the team...like many have been saying the last few years...it is all about the lines...if they lines are solid, everyone else is better...that was certainly true in game 1. Now I am not saying there weren't messups, there were, but that was about the cleanest game 1 preseason game i can remember the skins playing over the last 20 years or so. And damn....hightower looked Rock solid...grossman looked very good...the starting line was solid, except for a couple messups at LG and Center....the wideouts looked very good against average CB's ...MOSS...damn...so glad we resigned him....AWESOME.... Defense?...I am still not sold on our CB's...I think we have two #2 CBs, so we will need some creative pressure to make up for that... I feel great about our punter and better about our kicker....kickoffs were EXCELLENT. The only real disappointment I had was with our #4 Draft Pick WR...I even noticed a guy who many of you said was a wasted pick because he was a safety played rather well...Gomes. I LOVED this game...quite enjoyable quite frankly, and I tend to be on the pessimistic side....last year, I predicted 6-10 at this point....It may be possible for us to be 8-8 this year based off of a single preseason game...but I don't want to say for sure yet...but there is no way this team is a 4-12 team....WAY WAY better...kudos to the coaching staff and the front office. GREAT JOB so far...amazing start quite frankly. We could use another LG a starting CB, QB of course, ILB...but I think we can do well as is...btw...our OT backups looked quite solid...our interior depth needs help. But boy...that is nitpicking at this point....totally shocked how well they played. HAIL SKINS!
