Re: Commanders 2023 Off-Season Thread
I don't understand how Ron can look at the linebacking corp from the last 3 years (Davis excluded) and think anyone is worthy of bringing back.

Re: Commanders 2023 Off-Season Thread
I would try to bring Holcomb back for the right price. Mayo is going to get the bulk of his reps on ST, not on defense unless there's injury. They are in 2 LB sets the majority of time, so it will likely be Davis and Holcomb again - or his replacement if they let him move on.

Re: Commanders 2023 Off-Season Thread
I would draft a LB in the first 4 rounds. Holcomb is a great depth guy to have around but I am still not sold on him as a starter.

Adding a vet a LB the caliber of Wagner to this defense, I think it’s a top 5, maybe top 3.

Adding Wagner would certainly change that. Yes. |

Looks like Jamies Winston will be available. Anyone want to eat a W?

Re: Commanders 2023 Off-Season Thread
Chad Henne would be the perfect type of veteran to come in and help mentor Howell, assuming he wants to keep playing.

Re: Commanders 2023 Off-Season Thread
The Commanders are releasing DB Bobby McCain, source confirms.
( @AdamSchefter 1st). Washington developed a young safety corps, which pushed McCain to nickel corner. SFredskins gonna be happy!

Re: Commanders 2023 Off-Season Thread
That's kinda surprising, not that I'm complaining. Does that mean Butler will be the nickel CB in some plays?

Re: Commanders 2023 Off-Season Thread
I just threw up in my mouth a little when I read that.
Honestly, McCain had flashes here and there -- frustrating player in that respect. Got beat too often for a starter. It feels to me like the safety position hasn't been emphasized in recent years. I can't think of a safety in the game now that I would characterize as dominant the way that guys like Ed Reed, Earl Thomas, Ronnie Lott, and, of course, Sean Taylor were. Derwin James, and a handful of other guys like Minkah Fitzpatrick are good (even very good), but teams aren't really designing plays to avoid them. It's such an awesome position (to me, at least) when done right.
