Good point, although hindsight is 20/20. No one preseason thought this would be a season in which we would lose to Minnesota and Tennessee. We really should be 5-4 right now under Brunell, but thats something you can't change at this point. You can only work foward, see if we can beat Tampa Bay, and if not then play for next season.

Re: if campbell doesn't start next week

Just for the record, when they list Campbell as the emergency QB, that means that they cannot play any other QB after he goes in. So, any switch today would have been to Collins because that leaves the option of putting Brunell or Campbell back in if necessary. Once Campbell is declared THE STARTER, Collins would likely be the emergency QB with Brunell #2. Also, I believe the emergency QB is technically inactive for the game.

If I got any of this wrong, I'm sure you all will correct me.

The emergency QB is only allowed to come in if the first 2 QBs get hurt, or if it's the 4th quarter.

Thanks for the clarification. I suppose if they really wanted to get the 3rd guy in there they could tell the second stringer he's "hurt". It generally wouldn't come up though. Most teams have a clear backup.

Re: if campbell doesn't start next week

If anyone knows football it was obvious Brunell all season has been running through his reads so fast that he throws to his hot route with a bullet pass that has only netted him less than 50% completion on that read.

Another factor to consider has been Brunells inability to run for 1st downs when the protection breaksdown. That has been obvious since last season.

Now lets look at his other obvious problems like his height disadvantage. Campbell has almost 3 to 4 inches on Brunell & an arm that can only improve.

I am impressed with Washington's patience to not throw Campbell right into the fire. He has certainly learned a great deal waiting in the wings.

The time is now however to go with youth & begin Campbells development. If this were a baseball franchise & Brunell was the Ace of the staff he would have already been skipped in the rotation or DL for obvious problems. Al Saunders complexed playbook or not, Brunell is not going to get any better & Campbell can only improve in real game situations.

Go Jason!!!

Gibbs will stick with Brunell, and we'll lose again this weekend.

Re: if campbell doesn't start next week

Every week the hounds call for Campbell to start, and every week the hounds get more fuel because Gibbs sticks with Brunell. Until the Skins are mathematically eliminated from the playoff race, Gibbs is going to stick with who he thinks is the best option to win, and that is Brunell. He's not ready to throw in the towel on this season just yet, even though just about everyone else has.

At 3-6, the Skins have to go on a helluva run to make the playoffs. They reeled off 5 straight last year to finish the season, and I'm willing to bet the coaching staff is trying to use that as motivation. Except it's 7 straight, and it's a pretty rough schedule ahead.

Don't get me wrong, as I'm throwing in the towel on this season and want to see Campbell strut his stuff. However, realistically, if the Skins think they can still win ballgames and claw their way back into the race, they are going to go with experience over raw talent every time.

The emphasis needs to get back on max protection football. Brunell simply has no time to throw the ball, and at the same time, he's simply afraid to make mistakes.

I see Brunell starting next week against the Buccaneers, and even against the Panthers...but 2 losses will put the Skins at 3-8, and out of the playoffs. That'll give Campbell 5 starts against some solid defenses (Falcons, Eagles, Saints, Giants...Rams D sucks) and get his feet wet. Until then, #8 will be under center, and Collins will be #2.

I think 9-7 makes the playoffs this year, but unfortunately I've resigned myself to the fact that this team will not.

The Bucs are bad. I think that any of our QB's could get us a win against them.

Not if Brunell is throwing TD passes to the other team again.

If anything, THAT had to drive Gibbs nuts. I know Brunell doesn't MAKE a lot of plays, but usually he doesn't make a lot of mistakes either.

Not if Brunell leads us to 3 points again.
