i dont understand why people care about players practice habits. as long as that player performs come game day, who gives a rats ass? not everyone can perform at a high level without the practice, but if portis, or anyone else for that matter, can do it, why not? it keeps the mind and body fresh. we are talking about practice, right?

Because practicing hard sets an example for the rest of the team. If some of the best players on our team start practicing hard then it will trickle down to the rest and totally change the attitude of the team.

I would put Rock and Thomas in there as well. All Rock does is bust his ass and keep his mouth shut. I don't think you would find Rock bitching about playing in preseason. We need more guys like him and Thrash.

Cause it's a team sport more so than any other sport out there. Individual abilities can't make up for that. The team needs to practice.

Because it sets a double standard. If Portis comes in and works his ass off in the weight room maybe he's a little stronger and doesn't hurt his shoulder. You don't see LT getting all these nagging injuries do you? That's becasue he puts time on the weight room. Listen, I know you don't treat everyone the same. Especially at the NFL level. But when your 5-11 you need your best players so stand up and set an example for guys like LLoyd.

Haha, how's it gonna be any better in Miami avoiding partying?! Are you kidding me?! It would be 10 times worse!!

I lived in west palm beach for four years and barely made it out alive, FLA will kill you if you don't take it easy. I can't imagine south beach...ha ha ha ha

Re: Portis on 980

Is the screen pass a Saunders pass play or a Gibbs running play?

Re: Portis on 980

Portis is fine, he leads on the field and that's where it counts. Truth be told, no one really cares what he's like in his personal life. The guy is a baller until the whistle blows.

The problem isn't that Portis speaks his mind, it's that the coaches don't speak there's, it seems. You never can get a pulse for team until some swanky article breaks or until you hear from Portis or Cooley.

The one thing I admire about Bill Parcells is that you tend to get a good feel about how he feels about his team and the temparture of the locker room. He doesn't pull any punches.

Actually sounds like a few headlines are going to be made. CP all but said he had no intention of participating in OTAs and if people have a problem with that, so what. Now, I understand where he's coming from and all that, but I expect noise to be made over this.

I also thought he sounded a bit threatened by Betts' success, feeling that he has to reprove himself all over again. Maybe not by Betts directly, but by coaches and the fans.

Finally, hearing how divided the offense and defense (where corners and safeties aren't coached together?) really are, I'm slightly amazed Betts caught that TD at the end of the game Saturday.

Re: Portis on 980

The one thing that gets me about comparing Parcells return versus Gibbs return is that Parcells has always had the luxury of bringing in players that he knows and that know him and his coaching style. When Gibbs came back the only people he could bring in were his old coaches. Gibbs didn't have 3 or 4 players tagging along that understood Gibbs coaching style who in turn could help relate to other players.

That interview reminds me so much of why this entire organization needs to rethink itself, and get everyone on the same page. The concerns of which Portis speaks are not monumental, they are trivial things that can be worked out with better communication.

very good point, is there even 1 player left in the nfl that Gibbs coached in 81-93? I don't think so.
