Exactly. Andre Carter gets about $5M per year and a $10M SB, whereas Dock gets $7M per year and a $16M SB even though Carter plays a position that is far more important and probably is just as talented as Dock.

To put Dock's contract in perspective, we got bashed for giving Thomas a $7M SB at $5M per year. Sorry, but Thomas is twice the guard that Dock is (and I like Dock), but Dock got more than twice Thomas' SB at 50% more salary. It doesn't matter how you spin it, but Dock's contract is ridiculous.

Wasn't raymer surrounded by all pros when he looked like a swinging gate in seattle

I am not saying this is the downfall of the team, but it disappoints me and probably all of his offensive lineman and teammates when they dont try and keep their own players. Its not a good message. I just dont understand it. they dont want to pay our own players. Champ, Smoot, Pierce, Clark and those players are good players. But over pay for unproven players, Randel El, Lloyd, Carter. FA's love it because they come here and get paid, our own players leave pissed off because the team low balls them and lets them leave. This is why we will struggle every year to have a team of depth a team that doesn't have to struggle every year to get under the cap, a team that doesn't make the playoffs but 1 out of 10 years.

I could not disagree more. Whoever is saying Dock is crap, is whatever. I dont think he's crap, and I wanted like hell to keep him here and the Bills got a hellava football player.

But you understand that the Bills just singed Derrick Dockery to a deal very similar to what Hutchinson signed last year that set an NFL record for an offensive linemen. Do you think Dockery is one of the best offensive linemen to suit up in the NFL?? Hell, he was at BEST the 3rd best linemen on the Redskins last year (behind Samuels/Thomas). Give me a break, I was pissed at the orginization the whole last couple months, ask TAF, but after seeing these numbers, there was NO WAY they could resign Dockery. No freaking way. The Bills are absolutley insane, and Dockery would have been part retarded not to take that deal. I'm not saying we never overpaid people, I'm not saying the deals we gave to Arch, Lloydd are are ok. In fact this basically to me mirrors what we did with Arch, making some guy the highest paid guy at the position, who isnt even CLOSE to the best player at that position. How you can blame the FO for DOCKERY LEAVING (not saying that havent made mistakes), is beyond me.

I sympathize with your thoughts on this one 56 and I agree with many of them. But I don't think it's fair to say that we struggle and lack depth every year because we overpay players, and then say that we should have re-signed a slightly-above-average guard for basically the same deal Champ Bailey got. The cap makes signings a zero sum game and signing Dock would have meant that we would have been unable to sign other guys at more important areas (e.g., the entire defense).

I dont blame Dock one bit for signing that deal, he would have been a fool not to. What kills me are people mad at him because he signed else where, now saying he wasn't that good. the guys was the best guard, or 2nd best guard on the board. A 4 year player, started 64 games. a beast of a man. the 7 yr 49million deal in two years or 3 will look cheap to what we will have to pay a guy in that time to take his spot.
Example - look at what we left Pierce go for, he signed a reasonable deal the the Gmen, when we low balled him. now we have struggled at the position for two years, and now will pay more for a 32 year old aging veteran. We could have kept clark, who played like a beast for us, but we let him go and pay the richest contract for a safety in history. Springs, we had to sign a 30 year old corner to 10 million up front, 40 some million dollar deal 3 years ago, when we could have paid champ, and much younger, better player maybe 15 million up front. now that looks cheap compared to what clements got. (24million??)

Well pasta was the only one who thought that much of Dock then. Just about every list of the Top X Free agents had him somewhere in the 20's and lower. He's a f*cking guard for crying out loud.

and to say the Bills are blowing up the market, come on. we have blown up the market for the last 8 years. When does a punt return specialist and 3rd receiver get 10 million up front and 30+million, only on the Redskins. An unproven head case receiver gets the same deal. come on, seriously.

I don't think Dock's contract will look cheap compared to any other guard. In fact, I would be shocked if his deal doesn't turn out to be the 2nd biggest contract for a guard in the history of the league. Again, those are Samuels or Pace type contract numbers. I GUARANTEE we will not pay his replacement the same type of numbers.

As for Pierce: (1) we ultimately offered him basically the same deal as the Gmen; (2) if Pierce got mad because we initially lowballed him, he needs to grow up because that is how negotiations work.

As I said before, I agree that Dock is a good player, it sucks to see him go, there is a perception that we only pay outsiders, and I would've liked to have seen him re-signed, but not at that price.
