I mean terrible. And not just sophmore playing on a bad team terrible. Terrible like he didn't look like he'd ever amount to anything. Then all of a sudden he grew a little and his arm got stronger and voila the kid was probably the best QB in the nation over his final two seasons combined. I think that horrible first season stuck in some minds and probably devalued him a lot.

Also the long term success of UVa QBs isn't that good.

Shawn Moore-did nothing
Matt Blundin-did nothing
Mike Groh-did less than nothing
Aaron Brooks-the most successful-eeck!
Most college QBs see a production spike between their 2nd and 3rd seasons. Your chronicle of Schaub's college career seems very prototypical.

Texans have NO CLUE what they are doing overpaying for an unproven QB.
Well, I only looked at his college stats because I agree with you on your point that he's unproven. We really can't go to his pro stats when he only has two career starts. It just doesn't help us.

I don't know. Any owner who's able to amass three Lombardi trophies in his first seven years can't be that idiotic. Now, he lost a couple of notches when he dumped Jimmy Johnson, no doubt about that. And I think the jury is still out on the T.O. signing.

He didn't build that team, he just bought em. The pieces were already in place.

You don't think he was instrumental in any way? He hired Jimmy Johnson, helped engineer the Herschel Walker trade with Minnesota, and was the lead guy in a series of fantastic drafts. The only player that was already there was Michael Irvin.

I hate to toot the horn for the Cowpies, but objectively speaking, you can't deny he was pivotal in the resurgence of that franchise.

That was ages ago now. Since then it's hard to say that Jones is a top GM.

Agreed, but since the Jimmy Johnson era, all the coaches were "yes men" until Parcells. He's also created an atmosphere that has allowed players to go over the heads of the coaching staff and go directly to him when they have a problem which is a bit unprofessional. And since the Cowboys last Superbowl win, he's tried to buy championships like Snyder and Steinbrenner.

I'll admit the shine on Jones' armor has begun to fade and take a few dents. I just don't think he belongs in the bottom 3 of all general managers.

I wouldn't put Jones at the bottom of the pack either, but he's clearly middle of the road now.

I think Carr has great potential, he's just in a sticky situation. A change of scenery would probably do him well.

PS. Aaron Brooks hasn't really done anything in the NFL and Oakland wanted him last season. Just saying

You hit the nail on the head. I've got one word for Schaub. Duuuuuuuk!!!!

Well the Texans went ahead and just flat out cut David Carr (and Domanick Williams, formerly Davis)

What about Oakland? He'd be back near his hometown of Bakersfield, and the Raiders could then take Calvin Johnson with the top pick

Re: Falcons Trade Matt Schaub to Houston

Kubiak is supposed to be a QB guru so it certainly doesn't say much for Carr given that he gave up on him after one year.
