Re: In Gus I Trust
Yeah Champ was the ultimate, but he reached that level while he was here, and had nothing more to prove. It wasn't like he needed more time with the Skins to become a shutdown corner. Smoot was pretty good also. It was dumb to let them go in the first place.

Re: In Gus I Trust
I'm surprised at all the mentions for Lang. He's always been a pretty average lineman, certainly not worth his 17th overall selection in 1997.

Re: In Gus I Trust
I don't think the Skins let Champ go. He basically wasn't going to re-sign here no matter what, so they did the smart thing in trading him to get value while they could. There were many rumors about him floating around, but the deal is they had to do something whether they wanted to or not.

Michael Westbrook had so much talent and was just to pig headed to put it together on the field.

Re: In Gus I Trust
Trent Green could have solidified the QB position for the past 8+ years and McCardell could have been his top target for that time..
I'm going to piss some people off with this one but Marty Schottenheimer is perhaps the most overlooked.. If he would have stayed then we never would have had to deal with the Spurrier debacle and with Vinny long gone from the picture who knows what our front office sitaution would have been like. I can't imagine the past 6 years would have been as bad under Schottenheimer as they were under Spurrier and Gibbs II.

Re: In Gus I Trust
Let us not forget Ray Brown. One of the first orders of business for the Norv era was to chase Brown and Mark Schlereth out of town. They both went on to be stalwarts for their new teams and each of them picked up a couple extra Super Bowl rings. Imagine what our line could have been in the 90's if we would have just held on to those two and tossed in Tre' Johnson, etc.
