I'm going to remain optimistic.. If it goes Cerrato/Fassel, that's a Super Bowl front office guy + a Super Bowl coach which is an improvement (on paper) over anything we had pre-Gibbs.
Thats how I see it. I am not convinced that Vinny is the genius he is being made out to be, nor do I buy that he is the reason for all our woes. Now he will show his true mettle. As far as moving forward without Gibbs, this may be the best scenario, a guy that knows how to build a team, and a guy that knows how to coach. I would be a little disappointed that GW wouldn't get a chance, and I am a little wary that Danny chose Vinny over him, but if this move works I'm all for it. I don't mind the idea of Fassel being HC, but if we start seeing the bullshit we saw from this front office pre-Gibbs then we'll know whats what.

Back to the shit-er we go.
But if Gibbs is really a "consultant" and has been around Redskins Park since season's end, don't you think he has given some input on this? I don't think Gibbs wants to see all his work the past 4 seasons go straight down the shitter. What was Danny's point of hiring Gibbs in the first place if he's just gonna blow up the foundation he laid the second he leaves?

What if GW has met with Vinny/Danny 4 times because they are in extensive discussions on who all the assistants will be? What if GW is already de-facto head coach and it just hasn't been announced yet? Maybe they are just waiting until they have the entire coaching staff assembled. What if Fassel is set to be the OC? Sigh.... This is all wishful thinking...

I wonder how the Rooney rule feels about "de-facto" coaches.

If it works out, I'm sure we ALL are for it. I guess the problem I'm having is that they keep cutting the probability of it ever working out. Fingers crossed though...

Jacobs was a Spurrier pick (as we all remember) and if you recall, Snyder/Cerrato wanted another receiver but gave in to Schottenheimer on Gardner. That other WR? Santana Moss.

I hope you're right. Maybe snyder learned a few things during Gibbs tenure. We shall see.

Yup, and with confirmation from Gibbs too. So, now we know, and now we can give him due credit (Good or Bad) for his decisions, and not have to hold ourselves back with questions about what he truly does.

I am still wary, as I said before, but if Gibbs endorses this then Im game to give it the benefit of the doubt.

Before Gibbs got here the record showed that the Snyder/Cerrato team had no clue how to build a winning franchise. I really hope they learned enough from Gibbs to not make those same mistakes again.

This move also pinpoints one other than Snyder to critic. I always say proof of one's ability can be seen through the results they produce, or lack thereof.

Re: Vinny Cerrato promoted to Executive Vice President

All this means is that Vinny got himself an official title, and is basically taking Team President duties left by Gibbs...which was inevitable anyways, since Snyder said he wasn't going to change the structure...

Furthermore, it also means that the new head coach will be working with Vinny to build the roster. Hey, wait a sec...I believe Gibbs did the same thing when he was here. And, it's been the status quo for years that Vinny works with Dan on personnel matters.

Why are the naysayers and the doom patrol all in a tizzy? This was going to happen no matter what. . .

But what you are overlooking is that now Vinny can be held responsible if the Skins tank. Before, he could hide under Dan's cloak, but now, in the limelight that he held at Notre Dame and San Fran, he can take the fall if things go haywire. Which, to a good many of you think will happen nonetheless.

I know there isn't much going on...but take a step back and relax and remember this was bound to happen.

Since he was named VICE President, does that suggest that there will be a president, perhaps the next coach, or am I reading into the title too much?

Re: Vinny Cerrato promoted to Executive Vice President

Is it too late to start a campaign to beg Coach Gibbs to re-consider one more year?

This team was only a few injuries, a few poor coaching decisions away from being
in the same position the Giants are in now. I can't believe we are going to blow
all of that up. What's more important, VC's relationship with GW or the players relationship and understanding of the philosophies of GW and AS?

Re: Vinny Cerrato promoted to Executive Vice President

I have said alot of negative things about Vinny in the past, but the truthe is, he has done an astonding job of getting talent, aside from high priced free agents. When they let him draft, he does great.
