IMO the situation with Gardner is win/win. Either he will be pushed to step up his game by McCants/Thrash (I'd also include Jacobs if he could stay healthy), or one of them will prove worthy and take his job. Either way, we win by having a high quality #2 WR to compliment Coles. And if, God forbid, Coles goes down with an injury, they will still be alright, especially if TJ gets healthy and continues to impress like he was doing in mini-camp and the beginning of training camp.
Daseal: Gardner was a decent #1 two years ago with over 1000 yds. He's not your proto-typical #1, but he does have the potential to get it done....if he can catch the freakin' ball more than half the time!!! I'm still pulling for my boy McCants though.... :headbange |

You made a very good point, Rock. But there is also a downside with it. If he loses his job to McCants and Thrash and goes to #4 (and I believe that will ultimately happen), then he will certainly lose significant trade value.

Betts and a 1st round pick for Ogluneye would be a mutually beneficial trade, me thinks.

That would be GREAT for the redskins, but no chance Miami goes for it. It will take a higher rated player than Betts to pry him away. Add Gardner and it could happen. I've been pulling for that ever since the Wale news first hit. But as a couple others have pointed out, that may now be a risky deal for us. With Coles' toe and Jacobs' ALWAYS injured, it could be too costly. I'd still like to see them go for it - I have much less respect for RG's skills than most others here, and would like to see us get some value from him while we can. We stuck it out with Westbrook WAY too long.

mutually beneficial to who? i'm thinking betts would rather sit in miami getting splinters in the winter... maybe the dolphins need someone to warm ricky's favorite spot until he gets through betty ford...

I think Betts & Gardner and no first rounder... depending how signing Ogun goes. If Miami said no... I'd walk away from the deal.

Well, if that's the offer, there will be uproarious laughter at their back as they walk away. They could get a dozen times better deal with CLE or elsewhere. This guy can have a huge impact on a defense.

I know he's worth more than that... but the value isn't there for the coin he's asking. If he were asking for a reasonable contract I'd consider adding a first rounder.
By the way... Cleveland turned down sending Andre Davis to Miami... How much better is Andre than Gardner? Really? Quote:

i still think its late, he's still a bit of a question (definately good, but having two super awesome D-linemen is a lot different than having one guy not as used to being double teamed), gardner is still an insurance policy for us, and betts is still completely worthless to any team we may try to pawn him off on .

Just because there is a top pass rusher going against the LT does not make the RT chopped liver. I don't recall the guy on the other side of Reggie White's line getting more sacks than him, or the Buffalo left DE getting more sacks than Bruce Smith. (Or even anything close). Let them double-team him. Arrington and Washington will have a party dancing with the QB.
