Re: Portis
^^^ thats b/c backs who take on all facets of the game get pounded on and dont stick around to long after the 3-4 years they are the featured back. terrell davis, jamal anderson, jamal lewis, marshall faulk, edgerrin james, even LT is showing some slowing down. hell shaun alexander was an MVP 2 years ago worth big bucks is now out of the league.
point is, premier backs (which CP is) do not last long after a good 3-4 years of pounding. i could keep adding names to my list of guys who came out blazing for a 3-4 period carrying their team (just like CP has the past 3-4 years here) but they all break down and fall off after that window of performance and team reliance in their game plan. im sure the colts fans didnt agree with the dropping of the edge as he was still relatively young, fun to watch, and still had productive years ahead of him but the colts (a perennial power house with good management) knew better, took the fan disappointment and went to the SB!! no, joseph addai is not as good as the edge back when he was with the Colts but thats the point. you get these thorough bread stud RBs and run them hard then let them go to graise somewhere else. Is joseph addai a better play this year and last year than the edge is in arizona? are we now starting to realize you guys are right when you say its a good thing fans dont run the skins? unfortunatley you get your way with CP and his contract. great player, thanks for the strong hard running 5 years but we are going to find a younger you. runningbacks are like prostitutes; you pay em, pound em hard then get yourself out of there. problem is we married ours. sorry for the offensive terminology . . . go skins!! (post in response to "all facets" post, not you sheriff gonna getcha, sorry and ill stop posting on this subject, i cant say anymore really) |

As far as Westbrook. Same thing. When he is healthy Eagles win. But the fact remains Portis had more yards then all of them individually before his injuries caught up with him. Again if Portis remained healthy he would be the league top rusher and probably in line for MVP. We can't win without Portis. |

Re: Portis
Anyone who thinks Portis is average....You answer this? Does Portis get the job done ? Does he get the job done well?!!!!! Does he consistently lead the nfl in rushing when healthy? When you think of offensive leader and playmaker on this team, does he cross your mind? Geesh. Some people are so critical! He is not perfect but he sure is DAMN GOOD!

Re: Portis
I think it's fair to say Plax is hurting the Giants but Jacobs seems to make it or break it for them. Portis is not only our running back but a team leader as well. I think Zorn didn't know how to recover when he lost the luxury of a solid Portis game.(s) He and his team where leaning to heavily on Portis. I think it's fair to give Zorn a offseason to regroup. Institute his offence. Keep all our same personnel but pick up some linemen on both sides. And keep Portis!

Re: Portis
Why weren't you saying this when the Skins were 6-2 and Portis was leading the league in rushing? Are you sure it's not just the 1-5 record over the last 6 games talking?

Re: Portis
Man if we get aye new rebulid offense of line then u will see the leading rusher again this next season.. We just need to rebulid that o line then he will be able to break long runs.. He always got to break threw 2 tackles before he gets 7 yards.. Man its not his fought its the o line we cant pass cause the oline if we upgrade that old dusty o line and watch how we thrive next year

Even with his recent struggles (393 yards, 0 TDs in the past 6 games, vs. 944, 7 TDs in the first 8), he's still 3rd in rushing yards in the NFL. The problem is, the rest of the offense isn't producing either. So if Portis doesn't get a pass for his lack of production, neither does anyone else. His own injuries have hampered him, as well as a stagnant offense that cannot produce. Throw in an offensive line that has fallen apart in front of our eyes, and backup RBs that cannot come close to shouldering the load when Portis isn't in the game (this season at least. Betts has proved before that he can), and you have a recipe for disaster. As far as JLC's fact...it's not true. Granted, the truth isn't too far, but he does have at least 2 runs of 30+ this season in 291 carries (source: NFL.com game logs). However, it wasn't too long ago this season that he carried this team to victory more than once. It's a little harsh to say he's not a playmaker just because his stat sheet isn't filled with long runs. Just ask the Cowboys, Ravens and Bengals. It doesn't take a lot of long runs to get a victory...a string of several in a row can do the trick. A semi-cancer? It wasn't too long ago that the same cat was dressing up as different characters from week to week, trying to boost's the team's morale. I think the outburst from him last week was frustration from the fact that he's hurt, and the team is losing, and he can't get his pockets straight. I don't condone his actions, in fact, if he had beef, it should have been face to face with Zorn, and not on the John Thompson Show. But calling him a semi-cancer, when this team clearly feeds off of him? I think it's far-fetched.

Re: Portis
he's always gotten a free pass,,,gibbs 2.0, now zorn. he's the owner's pet, and he aint goin' nowhere. he's having a decent year, but if you check his numbers with skins, he's had a couple not so great years...i.e. under 4.0 a carry.
