Mistake, not true, depends on who you ask (you're asking GTripp aren't you)

Not to mention the eventual outcome of the Jason Taylor move, even though at the time it seemed like a good idea. They got their man with Haynesworth, and I don't think it was a bad move.
How about the deal they got back Dockery back with, or the players they ended up not throwing big money at-Hackett, Bryant Johnson, Elton Brown, that Willis guy?

My point is, with names like Haynesworth, Hall, J.Taylor, OchoCinco, Jay Cutler, etc, Danny and Vinny have gone right back to falling in love with and often overvaluing big names (Haynesworth was not overvalued IMO). Not to mention the money. Very Pre-Gibbs behavior if you ask me.
I think they have a pretty decent balance going on. But I mean we have the means to at least be part of the discussion when it comes to some of these major players. So I think we always will be.

Its the toughest position on the field and the hardest position to find a franchise player. All things considered I think the Steelers paid what the needed to pay to keep their QB.

One thing I am sure the Steelers would never do is spend $100 million on a D lineman.
Don't put him in the HOF just yet. Jim Plunkett was a pretty mediocre QB who won two SBs, and he's probably never getting in.

If Ben retires with like 6-7 pro bowls and 2+ SBs, then he's a lock. If the Steelers suffer a many-year losing streak and end up cutting Ben lose before the deal is done, then it will hard for him to pick up HOF votes.

I tend to think that on OchoCinco and Cutler, Vinny was just doing the dirty work for "opportunities of a lifetime" for Snyder. Hall, he seemingly will defend the deal until the day he dies, so he's to blame if that one doesn't work out.

What part of what you quoted is a mistake? We offered multiple 1st round picks for Cutler and Ocho. Prior to free agency opening, Hall reportedly wanted $16M in guarantees, and we were reportedly offering $12-$14. And then we end up giving him $22.5?? I'm still scratching my head on that one. What happened in a matter of a week or two that made us up our offer by $8-$10M guaranteed? It certainly would be convenient to ask Tripp, b/c he and I definitely agree on the way we overvalue guys.

Hey I never said Danny/Vinny don't make sound moves (or non-moves) at times. I was just pointing out that they have shown, in SammyBaugh's words, some "Pre-Gibbs" behavior since he left. For the record I think Willis would have been a solid, cost effective move for a young, starting caliber RT.

I can agree with your last statement for the most part. However I still maintain that we overvalue guys, and Danny needs to curb his love affair with big-names to some extent. Nothing wrong with being a major player, just be a little smarter about it as far as money/draft picks.

Mr. Joe Jackson Gibbs PERIOD

He does things the right way with class and dignity! And by the way about everything he touches turns to gold or at a minimum a winning first class organization!

Thanks for those THREE beautiful trophies JOE!

I was saying it was a mistake to offer two first rounders for Chad, and that we never offered multiple 1st round picks for Cutler (unless you're counting Campbell as a first round pick)

That IS curious. I wonder why and if it would have made any difference? Was Sam Grossman's team even close? I think if Danny brought Gibbs in as a managing partner, that would be pretty cool.

Oh I see. I thought we offered our '09 and '10 1st round picks for Cutler, but Denver liked the Bears' offer better b/c it included a 3rd and a QB McDaniels approved of. Is this not the case? I'm almost certain I heard we were on board with 2 1st rounders...

I mean, Denver came out and said any team that wants Cutler needs to be prepared to part with at least 2 1st rounders, and we continued to stay in hot pursuit right up till the end.

I suppose there was a 3 way scenario in the works where Denver wouldn't have gotten both our 1st rounders, but I'd imagine what we would have given up (a 1st, Campbell, and other picks) would add up to the value of an additional 1st.

Anyway....

Another thing I am pretty certain of is that the Steelers wont have a many year losing streak. Its the Steelers, not the Skins. The Steelers are built for success now and 2 seasons from now. In fact I dont see how the Steelers arent favorites to repeat.

Yeah I remember him being part of a group, snyder kinda came out of nowhere after it looked like that one other team was going to get it.. but the nfl rejected

I don't know, the Patriots? The Colts? The Ravens? Maybe the Cards or Eagles as well.

They'll be around next year because they are well-built as you said, but I'd hold off on the Steeler playoff tickets just yet.
