He did dance around too much and at times it may of cost his team games but there was a sweet science to what Barry Sanders did on the field. He wasnt afraid to take a 5 yard loss to break a 80 yard TD. The dancing around was what made Barry Sanders such a insane player. I use to think the same things about the way he danced behind the LOS but there was a reason behind his madness. Top defenses could shut him down at times but the thing that made Barry Sanders special was how he could be shutdown all game but then one defender makes a mistake and Sanders takes it to the house 80 yards. As a defense you had to play mistake free football for 60 minutes and because of that Sanders made those Lions teams alot better then they really were.

Re: Name your all time starting QB, RB, TE, and 2 WRS and why...

First team:
QB - Elway - Cannon arm, mobile, carried Broncos single-handedly to 3 SBs, prior to winning 2.
RB - Jim Brown - Best combo of speed, finese, power ever....Period.
WR - Charley Taylor - Retired as the all-time receptions leader, in an era when DBs could almost climb on the WR's back.
WR - Randy Moss - Unparalled size, speed combo. Can be inconsistent in a bad team environment, but when focused sets records.
TE - Kellen Winslow Sr.

Second Team:
QB - Johnny Unitas
RB - Earl Campbell
WR - Lance Allworth - career spanned the 60s, yet 7th all-time in receiving Yds/game and 12th in TDs
WR - Art Monk - Most complete WR ever, ultimate class act.
TE - Tony Gonzalez

I just noticed you have a 2nd team. I think thats a great idea. I had fun with my first team unit so let me try this again. I listed my first team as Elway, Brown, Rice, Carter, Gonzo.

My 2nd team would be....

QB - Joe Montana/49ers
RB - Emmitt Smith/Cowboys
WR - Marvin Harrison/Colts
WR - Don Hutson/Packers
TE - Kellen Winslow/Chargers

I'd have a tough time deciding between Montana and Peyton Manning. I'll go with Montana. Although you can't go wrong with Unitas, Elway, Marino, Brennan...

Barry Sanders. If I had seen Jim Brown play or Walter Payton play more, I'd probably pick one of them, but I saw Sanders play and he was memorizing. If he had played 2 or 3 more years, he would have locked up many records.

Jerry Rice. Best ever. Also didn't hurt having 2 quality QBs throwing to him most of his career.

Art Monk. On teams where offense was run first, pass later, he left the game with the NFL record of most catches, career.

Tony Gonzalez. Best TE of my generation.

Clark was a hell of a WR . WR's in the 70's averaged 40 - 55 reception per yr. IF C. Taylor , I. Curtis or Swann played in todays NFL , they would have had much better #'s . If W. Welker were a #2 WR playing in the 70's , he would not average near 100 reception per year , nor would you see QB' s throwing for 30 plus td's per year , as I believe Sunny J. lead the league in td's passes with 19 < 74 > . Swann made the Hall because he dominated in the playoff's and Super Bowls .

I like the second team idea:
QB- Steve Young - What an amazing all around QB!
RB- Walter Payton - Sweetness
TE- Shannon Sharpe - pure strength and impossible to stop. Might make "ugliest player in the NFL", and make "worst speech impediment in the NFL other than Dan Dierdorf!"
WR- Tim Brown - Not sure if anyone mentioned him, but he was a flat out stud.
WR2- Marvin Harrison - Probably should have put him with Peyton in the first team, but the man is a stud.

QB: Joe Montana - He was an unheralded qb prospect coming out of Notre Dame and was a beast for the 49er's. It was sad to see him go to KC.

RB: Barry Sanders - The man was freak.

WR: Jerry Rice - Records, records, records.
Marvin Harrison - The guy has been a model of consistency his entire career.

TE: Gonzalez - This one isn't even close.

Re: Name your all time starting QB, RB, TE, and 2 WRS and why...

QB - Joe Montana: The man was the definition of "cool under pressure". And he has 4 rings.

RB - Barry Sanders: I really don't think this one needs a reason why, but I'll give one anyway. He broke a man's ankle without touching him, he was easily on his way to breaking numerous records when he retired (which is the only reason why Crybaby Emmitt stayed in the League so long), & he did all of it without a good offense or a FB. A legendary career cut short by bad management.

TE - Mark Bavaro: Big physical end that could run you over & make big plays. I always remember him being super clutch for the Giants when they seemed to need him the most.

WR - Art Monk: Despite the lack of a "signature catch" ( ), he was the clutchest of clutch receivers IMO. When you needed a 3rd & 16, he was there. He had the best hands in the game. You could throw the ball anywhere within 5 yards of his position & he would catch the ball & make something happen. He was also the classiest guy on the field.

WR - Jerry Rice: Next to Monk, Rice was my other all time favorite receiver. Also a class act & non-stop hard worker, his record breaking career is by & large one of the most celebrated of all time at his position (or should be). No matter where he went (even in Oakland...or was it LA at that point...I can't keep up with those clowns), his work ethic & his abilities never ceased to amaze.

That's my team.

Swann played in the 70's sure, but Clark played mainly in the 80's. A bit different than the 70's, but we're not comparing Welker to Swann, we're comparing Clark. Gary Clark basically lapped Swann's numbers and their playing years weren't too far apart.

QB- Joe Montana with Dan Marino a close 2nd even though he never won the SB. I think Marino was one of the best pure passers ever.
RB- Barry Sanders
WR's- Rice and Clark.
TE- Winslow, Sharpe, Gonzo cant go wrong with either.
