Because the screens actually meet league regulations and have had league oversight. Some of the blame here needs to be placed on mistaken league regulations.

Re: Problem w/ Cowboys giant screen.

If Jones refuses to raise it the Cowboys should get an "unsportsman like conduct" penalty everytime a punt hits that monstrosity. The whole thing is hilarious.

by several you mean less than 2?

So yeah, I can certainly see your concern for punting.
the titans' backup punter can hit it

your punter couldn't get it that high when asked to

when you guys are in a playoff game and have a chance at winning... wait, nevermind

With Jones constantly bringing up how much the stadium costs you think he'd be thrilled to throw in another 2 million dollars to the final cost tally.

Now money matters all the sudden when you bring up $2 million in REALISTIC dollars and not $1 billion imaginary ones.

I guess we have to wait until either New England or the Giants play there, with so much bitching and whining in their sports media, I'm sure something would be done about (see Brady rule for example).

It would not cost them a penny to raise the thing as it is on cables and can be raised and lowered with a push of a botton or two. I'm sure after a few times of punts hittting it they will be asked to raise it up some. It was designed for viewing at its current level and thats why they don't want to rais the thing up. As it sits now most people in the mid and upper level just look straight out and ther is the screen. People in the lower level look up some and people at the very top look down some. I actually think the thing takes away from the game and people will watch that more then they actually watch the live play on the field. It is nice to have a nice screen to watch after a play but this thing is just to dam big and anoying.

Not sure it's not easy to just push a button to raise it, unless that button push costs $2M

Re: Problem w/ Cowboys giant screen.

the screen will be raised shortly to accommodate a U2 concert. but matty is right. the cost, for some reason, is around 2 million bucks

Re: Problem w/ Cowboys giant screen.

I read that they need 6 winches the size of Humvees to move it; I was not clear whether those are still to be installed (hence the 2million) or if they were installed already and more work is needed in addition to them.

This whole thing is so funny and I cannot wipe the smile off my face.

No matter what any Cowboy fan says you can shut them up by bringing up this idiocy displayed by their owner.

Yeah, if the league mandates that it has to be moved, JJ isn't going to just pay for it himself, and I don't blame him. (btw, people don't become billionaires by paying for stuff like this to be redone, it's not a "drop in the bucket" as some have said).

It's like the NFL has signed off on it like a bldg. commissioner, JJ et al (town of arlington is at least co-owner?) have complied w/league rules. That's why you do bldg. inspections.

I imagine that the league standard ASSUMED that scoreboards would always be on the ends or side of stadiums, not right in the middle.

Re: Problem w/ Cowboys giant screen.

I think this really will add to what could be the stadium's inherent home field disadvantage. People will be looking upward more so than down on the field. During the game Kurt Minnifield talked about how all those upper seats have to look downward at the stadium at a sharp angle because your eyes are drawn to the screen in front of you which is at near eye level for so many.

Will this change the energy of the crowd if so many people are only looking at the screen, rather than actual field? I don't know, i guess as much noise can be generated even if people are yelling at the screen, but it doesn't seem like it would be as intense.

This will be interesting to follow as the season goes. This is the first stadium that's designed a tron as a primary viewing option, rather than a supplemental/replay tool.

Eventually, as people realize all they are doing is watching a big screen, they will feel much less obligation to be in their seats, and might spend more time on trips to concessions, bars, etc. where there are smaller screens. Sound familiar? FedEx has never been the homefield advantage that RFK was, even though it holds 48,000 or so more.

In a nutshell, careful what you wish for, some of these huge stadiums really suck in terms of game day experience for the fan. I think JJ et al have done an incredible job, but I think it will be bad for the home team. !

Re: Problem w/ Cowboys giant screen.

Old stadium: Ran out of money and left with an ugly hole in the roof that causes horrible shadows on the field.

New stadium: Purposely spent money to replicate the ugly hole in the roof and in a massive spending effort, installed a punt-blocking TV screen over the field.

This is hilarious...only in Dallas would this crap happen. At least this screen won't be affecting any games of importance, since Dallas has not won a playoff game in 13 years and counting.

The league should massively fine him for every week he does not move it, whether it affects a kick or not. Knowing Jones and his ego, he'll pay the fine before admitting he was wrong (stupid).

True, and Monster Truck events...he has more planned for this stadium than hosting football games...especially since January is always wide open on the calendar for the Cowboys' facility.
