Re: Washington Capitals 2009-2010 ongoing thread
It appears an end is near for this mess. Nylander put on waivers. Good luck somewhere.
Nylander put on waivers It appears more news broke while I was at 35,000 feet this afternoon. According to Bob McKenzie's twitter page - and now confirmed by a Caps official - Michael Nylander has been placed on waivers. The move does not, however, mean that a trade/loan/minor league assignment is imminent, I'm told. For now, it only means Nylander has agreed to waive his no movement clause - which, of course, is the first step toward moving his $4.875 million cap hit elsewhere. The Caps, I'm told, are continuing to mull their options with regard to the veteran center, who has not suited up for the Caps since the playoffs. Nylander will clear waivers at noon tomorrow if no team claims him. GO CAPS!!!!!

That shootout tonight was SICK!!! Varlamov let the first one get by him, but then he stopped 10 in a row. Unbelievable.

Great win tonight. Theodore was pathetic, Varly was lights out. I'm kinda tired of the musical netminders. Let's commit to Varly and move forward.

Re: Washington Capitals 2009-2010 ongoing thread
Another nice team performance by the CAPS tonight. All around good game by all. Will forgive the first 10 minutes of the game when the CAPS came out slow and looked unprepared for the Wild.
But GREAT victory! VARLY is the man! Keep up the good work between the pipes. On a bad note, Knuble got hurt in the first and did not come back apparently surgery is needed on a broken finger and 3 to 4 week down time. BIG LOSS. Posted at 9:51 PM ET, 11/13/2009 Knuble out three to four weeks Mike Knuble suffered a broken finger late in the first period and will need surgery, a team official said. He is expected to miss three to four weeks. The first line right wing was injured when he was shoved from behind and crashed headfirst into the net by Wild defenseman Marek Zidlicky. It's unclear exactly how Knuble was hurt, but he went hurdling over goalie Josh Harding and landed hard. Without Knuble, it would seem that the chances of Alex Ovechkin returning to the lineup tomorrow night in New Jersey just increased. Another back to back game set on the road tonight to face I believe Jersey tomorrow. ROCK THAT RED & KEEP ROLLING CAPS!!!!!

Re: Washington Capitals 2009-2010 ongoing thread
Great win tonight. Fehr was huge for us in regulation. Varly with some key saves in the shootout, and Backstrom sealed it. I definitely didn't want to see yet another OT loss. Tonight's win put us in 1st place overall in the Eastern Conference.
We need to learn how to keep a friggin lead.

Re: Washington Capitals 2009-2010 ongoing thread
I still can't believe this team is still 3 or 4 years away from peaking. Ovechkin, Backstrom, Green, Semin, and Varly will all be seasoned vets in their mid 20's, and Alzner and Carlson will be full time pros. Even Fehr is starting to like a core guy. Then you have seemingly random young guys like Flash and Perreault contributing on any given night. Theres even the possiblity that Neuvirth will develop into a qualtiy NHL goalie in one or two years. Throw in great value free agents like Knubble and Morrison and you see what a well run franchise can do.
Even without Ovechkin this is a very good team and thats scary. Still I'm ticked that Sopcast started shorting out late in the third period would have loved to have seen them come back live. You have to give it up for Carey Price though, some of those saves would easily have been goals against other goalies.

Ovechkin is definitely going to be suspended now and probably fined.

Re: Washington Capitals 2009-2010 ongoing thread
Not to mention the potential injury. What a stupid hit on his part, but I just hope he's okay.
