Re: Who would you get rid of for 2010?

I would cut Portis first. If 2010 is uncapped they need to take advantage of it and cut every player they have with a bad contract. This CBA mess could be a real advantage to the Redskins in terms of fixing thier salary cap. Its a real opportunity for the next coach to start with a clean slate. I really hope thats the way they look at it as opposed to trying to load up for a half assed title run.

So you guys want to basically fire everyone, cut everyone, trade everyone but will be bitching and complaining about how badly we suck again. Odd.

Re: Who would you get rid of for 2010?

I know this thread isn't supposed to account for salary cap issues, but celts raises a very good point. We need to take advantage of an uncapped 2010.

- Andre Carter - Orakpo needs to move to the full time RDE, forget the SLB. Carter may have some trade value for a draft pick.
- Randy Thomas - Injuries have taken their toll. We must dump his contract in the uncapped year.
- Portis - Others have metnioned several good reasons, plus I can think of $10M more.
- Todd Collins - Weak armed game managers don't get paid $ 3.5M / yr.
- Betts - no production, no upside.
- Davis - I think this guy has potential, but unless we have a coaching change that's going to employ a ton of 2TE sets and actually get the second TE the ball, Davis is a waste. He has trade value, get a pick for him.
- Cartwright - no production
- Daniels - old, slow
- Colt Brennan - the Cult was fun for a while, but getting outplayed by a 5' 10" rookie says it all.
- Moss - but only in a trade for at least a 2nd round pick. He can still be productive.
- Smoot - slow, major liability in man coverage.
- ARE - $ 5M / yr. is way too much for a 3rd or fourth receiver that has no value in the return game

I'm holding on to Landry. The point about him missing tackles is fair. The point about GW mentioning he was a sure tackler is also a valid point. Why the contradiction? Landry is a good tackler near the LoS, not particluarly good in space, IMO.

The jury is currently deliberating on JC. We'll find out over the next few weeks. If he continues the same level of play as the last two weeks, he will need to go and will likely have very little or no value.

Even if JC goes, IMO it is time to find a replacement for Samuels in the first round of the 2010 draft. He's slowing down and is getting beaten more frequently off the edge. Rabach will be serviceable for another year, Rinehart, Heyer, Dock should be fine. If we're able to get a high caliber LT, Samuels should be shopped after the pick.

Would love to go after Marcus McNeil.

A new cult will start in 2010 with Colt...McCoy

I can't believe everyone is so quick to piss on the only guy to beat the Giants, Todd Collins.

That could just be true....he is The Real McCoy!

And McNeil would be an instant replacement over CS, not so sure SD wouldn't like to retain his services.

Re: Who would you get rid of for 2010?

We have no choice BB but to keep JC regardless of what you think of him. He isn't perfect, but how many Qb's in the NFL are. Fact is we will probably lose Collins to retirement or just will let him go anyway. If we let JC go we will have to acquire 2 new QB's via draft or FA. Face it with Collins probably on the way out, you need someone with experience in the fold. The big question is will JC even want to stay? There might be a chance someone else will want him, like Oakland, etc. Portis is still a good back, just give him a solid line and his stats will improve. As long as the cap hit is a minimum(assuming if the cap does stay in 2010) I would release ARE for sure. Moss might be inconsistent, but he is still our only WR threat. I do not expect Kelly or Thomas to pan out in the near or distant future, so we need to draft another WR or two. It would be nice to see Zorn throw in Marko, just to evaluate him and see if he is really a gamer or not. Smoot has turned into almost a waste of space in my book. Can't believe how fast his skills have deteriorated in the past 5-6 seasons since we let him go to the Vikes. We need to discard a couple of our backup RBs as others have suggested in order to find Portis' eventual replacement. Betts isn't it for sure and Cartwright is just a special teams guy at best. I am surprised Randy Thomas doesn't just retire, but I agree with others that booting him for a draft pick would be advisable. Thing is if we are going to build a winner we need to focus more on the draft, keeping our high rounders. Thing is we have given them all away for these FA's that have underperformed for the $ we give them. I don't expect a winner anytime soon at Fedex.

Re: Who would you get rid of for 2010?

Easy one:

1. Vinny Cerranto has got to go! Dude where did you learn to put together a team and coaches! This is awful, there's a long road to hoe to rebuild this team and clean up your mess... I would say Danny Synder (excuse me, Mr. Synder) but I don't think that he would let the team go unfortunately! Sell it Danny! Sell it PLEASE!!!

2. Zorny. Hmmm. There's a reason that you were QB coach for 10+ years in Seattle. Head coach is WAY over your head! that's all I have to say about that. Y'all no what's up.

3. Campbell - the last chance from me at the beginning of the year had officially expired at the end of the first half of the Tampa game last week. You'll be great somewhere, but not in DC.

4. Portis. Too many injuries way too much of a liability right now. We need some fresh feet to juk and dodge, but not to batter like he's been doing.

Yeah I have to agree with you on all the above, even Colt. Why we released Daniel and kept Colt was moronic, but it is all a moot issue now. Brennan was a late rounder for a reason.

Can't cut JC if you can help it. Collins is going to take off/get released and then you are just stuck with Brennan, who is a disaster waiting to happen in my book. Need someone with starting experience. Portis still can produce, upgrade the line and he will get his groove back somewhat. Zorn is good as gone. Mr. Snyder brought him here as a last resort, as the "sexy" HC candidates stayed out.

I am not stupid and know next to none of this will actually happen, but if we we can for cap reasons trade haynesworth (and maybe hall, but I think he might be too important to get rid of) and get rid of portis I think it will be extremely beneficial. I think we need to scrap our team and start anew. I think we need to draft a qb next year and get rid of campbell. I think our team is a joke as it is, and we need to start over which we won't be able to do unless we free up some cap space. This is because we don't have enough young talent to build purely through the draft, so we will need to pick up some key (young) free agents to help us along.
You think we should draft a QB? Who the hell is A QB? If you want them to draft a QB you better have a damn name. Didnt they draft JC and Colt? So you want to go out and draft just A QB. That would be just brilliant to draft A QB.

Re: Who would you get rid of for 2010?

Who would I get RID of for 2010:
Offense
1.Betts ( On the decline makes to much for a back up)
2.R.Thomas ( Injuires, age)
3.ARE (salary,limited production on PR)
4.Rabach (limited run blocker)

Defense
1.Daniels ( age, limited edge rusher)
2.Griffin ( age, salary,injuires , production decline)
3.Smoot ( lost a step, salary, young DB's on roster)
4.Rogers ( contract year , if he wants to much don't over spend)

Special Teams
1.Rock ( solid but limited on big returns, DT can replace)
2.Danny Smith? ( last time special teams return TD? Oh Moss vs Lions 2008)

Quarter Back
1. JC (Needs to stay has upside, Draft class not to promising, free agents not better than JC)
2. Collins ( Take a pay cut or release)
3.Colt ( Show he can be a backup QB)

I like this idea of cutting guys without taking penalties for thier contract because of the uncapped year. This would be heaven sent for several guys ARE, Portis, Andre Carter, Moss (id keep him, but his contract crazy), and Randy Thomas (he is gone away). If no penalty is the case, we would be crazy not to get rid of these guys for a fresh start. Look to the draft to build the team. We also need to resign Rocky and ill catch some heat for this but Carlos too to reasonable contracts. Anybody suggesting we cut Landry is crazy.
