Re: Big Ben accused of sexual assault
Big Ben may be in real trouble here. From pictures and accounts, it sounds like he was shitfaced and was being belligerent to other girls who turned down advances. Most likely, he doesn't remember what really happened. I am real curious if he will testify. I would think the prosecutors will focus on how drunk he was and whether he could control himself. It is going to be a tough sell to say that you went to 5 bars with a "Drink like a Champion shirt" and that your eyes were half shut because you were tired...
It is good that he can afford a big time attorney because he is going to need him. He is probably facing a big payout to her regardless. |

Re: Big Ben accused of sexual assault
It is. However like I said earlier wearing a shirt like that ("drink like a champion") doesn't bode well when you try to convince people that you don't have an alcohol problem and of course if it was the only thing then fine, but this on top of a laundry list of dumb decisions.

you could be convicted of rape with little more than a crying sympathetic looking woman up on the stand saying you did it. despite all other evidence not supporting her version, that jury will only remember that crying woman, mother, daughter, sister, granddaughter, etc... in a rape trial last year, we did a voir dire of the venire pool, more than half of the 150 or so people either were sexually assaulted or had a close one who was and had to be excused. interestingly enough, 28 of the first 32 potential jurors were white women. i personally think the state atty and jury commish were in on it since they were all friends. dont be charged with rape if your a black guy in a rural county in maryland. with rape, once that word is uttered in a courtroom full of prospective jurors, they have already made their mind up before hearing and considering all the evidence. i will say big ben, now, is set up to be vulnerable to any woman's accusation of rape or misconduct. after this case, any woman could make a claim if there is a scantila of evidence he will have to plead. something like witensses saying they saw them together or saw them leave together is all the corroboration needed even though the fact that they were together just places him there and not that he did a crime.

i heard he had a shirt on with like an emblazened devil on it. the fact that ben was accused of rape in az will not be evidence for the jury to hear if this goes to trial.

Re: Big Ben accused of sexual assault
This disgusts me.
Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger should settle with his new accuser - Mike Florio - NFL - Sporting News If Rothlesberger is innocent, then yeah, i can see how Florio's advice would make sense. But what if he's guilty? Florio is basically saying, "if you have a lot of money, its ok to commit rape. you can just pay off the victim later if they decide to talk." I realize that none of us know the facts, but it distrubs me that so many people are assuming that he's innocent of rape and that she is guilty of purgery. We don't know a thing about this woman, but we know enough about Rothlesberger to question both his character and his judgement. If people are going to start making assumptions, i dont see why they would side in favor of Rothlesgerger.

just b/c you were drunk doesnt mean you committed rape. just b/c you were accused of rape before, doesnt mean you raped now. the AZ allegation will not be admissible evidence if this one goes to trial. so what do we really have to question roth's credibility vs the woman's? the motorcycle accident? the fact that he seems to like to drink? without actual facts coming to light, i cant make a judgment call.

Re: Big Ben accused of sexual assault
i agree that we can't make a definitive judgement now, but the fact that rothlesberger is involved in some sort of incident every year is enough to question his judgement. he shouldnt be putting himself in these situations to begin with. his behavior is clearly reckless if nothing else.
my overall point is that presuming Rothlesberger is innocent of sexual assualt means we are assuming his accuser is guilty of making the whole thing up. it just concerns me that so many people are quick to assume the later is true. i think there are far more me who get away with sexual assault because the victims don't speak up than there are women who falsely accuse men of rape to get money.

Now, if the woman takes the money in settlement it would lead to one of two conclusions IMO; 1) she made it up and cashed in on Roth's stupidity 2) she didn't make it up, but chose to take a settlement, which is her moral decision, but would still leave the impression on many in the public that she was just "cashing in". Either way, it helps Big Ben in the public eye and makes a very expensive and possibly freedom threatening problem go away quickly. Now, if the woman declines the settlement, then the likelihood is she isn't making the story up and morally she won't sell out. If that's the case, Big Ben is in a whole heap of trouble and deservedly so. I do agree with your take on folks blindly favoring Big Ben, you know the saying; once is chance, twice is coincidence, three times is a trend.
