Of course I know some people don't know much about the murders of individuals escaping New Orleans. Shooting people on sight. No investigation, know any survivors? Get the real story. The storm wasn't bush's fault but the appointing of "joke" Brown a horse breeder as the head of FEMA showed he took the lives of American people as a joke. The emails showed how this dude was more worried about how he looked on TV. Of course this is like Katrina I mean what's 1500 lives they only from the 9th ward, anyway.
As usual, you may want to get your facts straight. The finger of blame needs to be pointed a lot harder at Ray Nagin and Kathleen Blanco than at Bush.

Criticism of government response to Hurricane Katrina - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

As far as the "shoot on sight" order, that came from Gov. Blanco (D) to the LA National Guard, not from President Bush.

Getting worse, I don't think we can stop this. It appears the leak is increasing in severity by the day. The spill tripled in size in 2 days. There are 10's of millions of barrells of oil in the deposit they were tapping. This is some history making stuff. 2,000 years from now this will be America's lasting legacy. The modern day Tower of Babel. The consequences of man trying to play god. It's time we reevaluate everything. God don't like ugly I blame Arizona forn this curse.

Do you also blame Arizona for the floods in Ten. and the attempted bombing in NY? I guess Tiger Woods not making the cut this weekend was also racest and to be blamed on Arizona.

It spreading because the oil is spreading out plus its pumping out what 200,000 gallons per day. Even if it was shut off it would still spread. Don't worry Obama is heading down there today so he can get in the way. I find it funny when a president goes to a place like this because it really makes no sense. I don't care who is in office it just all for show. I made it a point to fill up my boat today because I see the price of gas jumping up tomorrow when the stock market opens.

They're saying that the oil slick is now the size of Puerto Rico, and it could very well be the worst ecological disaster in the nation's history. Oh man. This is so terrible. It really almost makes me want to cry.

I also read somewhere this morning that worst case scenario it could take up to 90 days to cap the oil geyser. This thing is going to devastate industries along the gulf coasts.

The cleanup is going to take years.

I can't even imagine how much damage it will cause if it takes that long to get it capped. Unbelievable.

One would think they'd have emergency capping system at the bottom of the sea. I guess simply sticking in a drill is cheaper.

You know they did, and the emergency system failed. I imagine the new regulations will call for a redundant fail safe. And that would be a good thing, especially when you are nearly a mile under water.

Side note: the USAF A-10 warthog was an ugly looking, but very effective tank killer. The reason it was so effective is because it was super redundant, it could lose half the airplane systems, and one of its two engines and still complete the mission. Clearly expensive, but worth it. Same would be true with any emergency system that is the only stop to a disaster of this magnitude.

If what I read was correct they have two shut off valves. One failed which shuts off the oil automatically and the other they cannot reach because the structured collasped around the valve. Sounds like they need 4 of them so two will shut off automatically and the others as a back up.

For you guys that like seafood, keep in mind that Gulf stream seafood is probably going to cost a pretty penny now.

I can already see the U.S seafood industry and the wildlife going down the toilet. Pretty awful.

It will bring the seafood business to a stop in the golf and drive up prices else where.

If this works its way around the Florida Keys and up the east coast like some say it might, it will have a seriously damaging effect on vacations/tourism to beaches as summer approaches. Memorial Day weekend and July 4th weekend could be seriously affected

Yeah, it is really really sad actually.

I could get very political with this, but I am just saddened by the ecological impact this will have on the gulf. Its surprise no one seems to care about this, in that Tiger Woods gets more media coverage.

The news was all over this all weekend. There really was not but so much to report because the oil has not really made land fall yet.
