Re: McNabb excited about TE opportunities

Personality or not he's one of the top 5-7 players at his position.

Cooley had a broken ankle, genius.

and b/c hes the only white guy playing a position of skill on the skins.

I definitely would not go in that direction...

Re: McNabb excited about TE opportunities

no? im honestly not trying to start anything on here but come on? cooley's fame and jersey sales have nothing to do with him being a white guy with a fro? him being the only white player's jersey you can buy? (rabach doesnt count)

of course his production, personality and tenure on this team are bigger factors for his popularity but imo, his being white and playing a position of skill plays into his popularity amongst the mostly white skins home crowd.

Honestly, I don't see where his race has anything to do with his popularity. He's a good player with a fun personality. That's it.

Not really, I have a Portis jersey...plenty of Jordan/Pippens too. I even had a Doug Williams, Muggsy Bogues, and a Glen Robinson back in the day.

Come to think of it, outside of the #10 Skins jersey that came with my Hutch uniform when I was a kid in the mid 80s, I never had a white guy's jersey.

I don't consider skin color when buying jerseys...most people probably do not either (I'm hoping).

Portis is (was) exactly the same way back when he was playing well and I think they both were about the same in popularity. I loved Southeast Jerome and the rest, but man, bringing race into it is a huge stretch.

Just like Matty said, he has a hilarious personality and is a great TE. I don't care if he was purple.

Re: McNabb excited about TE opportunities

I will digress after this, i promise.

Of all the skins games I have gone to, of all the skins jerseys i have seen people wearing . . .i have never seen a black chick wearing a cooley jersey while there must be 30,000 cooley jerseys piling into the stadium every home game. so thats a billion white chicks wearing cooley jerseys vs 0 black chicks wearing cooley jerseys that i have seen.

Im buying my girl a cooley jersey just to make it 1.

Re: McNabb excited about TE opportunities

This is pure silliness, not even worth getting into.

There is something to it but the effect is probably minimal. Lots of kids like to look for people that look like themselves when they start watching sports, which might have been the case with me and Cal Ripken when I was a kid. However that was more than likely just a product of of him being a great baseball player and me being an Orioles fan. I mean I also liked Art Monk a lot when I was growing up. Michael Vick's favorite QB as a kid wasn't Randall Cunningham, but Steve Young.

And I have to say that right now my favorite player on the Skins is easily Orakpo followed by McNabb and Daniels. Race might get you noticed for an extra two seconds if you're in the minority, such is the case of black guys who play hockey but in the end the thing fans care the most about is how you play followed closely by how you conduct yourself.

Doesn't sound like the white people have the race issue...

Just kidding.

Well aware of that my friend. Any Redskins fan is aware of that. We must be friends, because you are already aware of my IQ level.

Davis has made ME and ONLY ME forgot about Mr Cooley apparently.
