Re: Could the Skins have the best offensive line in the division?

being that last year our OL was probably one of the worst in the league, if not the worst, I'd say that our OL, just by the additions of Artis Hicks, Jammal Brown, and Trent Williams should make us way way better, being that we have a former all pro LT starting for us at RT, a much better guard that was better than pretty much all over our starting guards from last year. As well as a coach who can make OLine's look good, and a QB who has a sense of awareness in the pocket. That already makes us that much better.

I'd say right now were at about the 10th best OL in the NFL, and by seasons end we could be even higher/better.
Once Allen and Shanny came aboard you could really sense a change in the way the talking heads look at the organization. Honestly, the "hate" was well deserved with Danny and Vinny in charge. That has definitely changed.

I second that on Moving The Chains. That show should be required listening for all football fans. I could listen to those guys talk football all day long. PK brings it from a GM perspective, and T-Rock the player perspective. Love those guys.
Yep. Those 2 are the most informative and knowledgeable of all the guys I listen to on radio or on TV. And you are right they should be required listening for any true fan of the game.

Actually I might have jumped the gun the Buc's. Fact of the matter is that they're among the most talented units in the league but their production leaves something to be desired. Maybe in a different situation they would be a lot better, say with another running back or a more seasoned QB but the fact of the matter is that based on what we know the only thing they have going for them is their raw talent.

Of course part of it could be the coaching. The Redskins had a very talented offensive line under Spurrier but looked horrible thanks to the system. When Gibbs came in the line shot back up to among the leagues best units. Then of course Zorn came in and years of drafting skilled players over lineman came back to bite us in the ass.

Re: Could the Skins have the best offensive line in the division?

No I think you are right on the money with the Bucs, but they are a victim of thier own achilles heal in that they dont have the coaches to use what they have. Thier playbook is about as vast as ours was the last 2 years.

Now to the point of the Redskins woeful lines over the last few years. We kept relying on often innjured and old Linemen. Thomas, Jansen, and Samuels. These guys were just on bad play from missing the season time and time again.
To be fair I won't include Samuels in that list, but vinny should have been aware of Chris's problems and have been prepared. Just as how could he think we could continue to keep playing thomas year after year. He had torn muscles in his arms and broken bones time and time again. Ok enough of talking about the past for me. We all know how we had gotten to last years debacle when it came to the big guys up front.

Rookie LT, injury prone RT...RG to be determined, center is average RG is a bit above average, most have never played together...we have a completely new offense with a new blocking scheme, with a new QB....not to mention a new oline coach...and the vast majority have not played nor coached in the NFC east....on top of this....we had the arguably the worst offensive line in the franchise for 25 years....oh yeah....our oline is the BEST!

take it easy on me....I just thought I'd throw in some valid reasons that our line is in radical transition at this point..is it possible that they will be the best...yes....but highly unlikely. The best olines have been playing together for 3+ years with the same coaching. I'd expect the best result is to achieve a decent to good oline....say the 12-15th best out of 32...that is a MASSIVE improvement from 28th-32nd last year.

So don't call me a debbie downer. I expect solid improvement. I just dont expect miracles.
One real injury doesn't exactly scream injury prone

Perhaps, but he is coming off a major injury and was on injured reserved...that is obviously a concern.

Are you agreeing with my other points?

Do you think the Skins have the best O-line in the NFC east?

I think the Giants OL is still pretty damn good, Cowboys are pretty good at protecting Romo, but then again he does run a lot to make them look good, but we'll see by seasons end if we do have the best OL in the East.

Why are people so hung up on Jammal Brown having a "major injury?" The guy had a hernia surgically repaired. It's not minor like a twisted ankle, but it's a far, far cry from tearing knee ligaments. He'll be just fine.

thank you

hernia isn't as big of a deal as a lot of other injuries.. he would've been able to come back later in the year they just couldn't afford the spot for him for that long.

Remind me to never ask a hypothetical question again, oh and check out the link backs to this thread. Good to know that Giants fans don't understand "could" too.

Actually it was also a hip injury. I think they did the hernia repair first, and then found out that it was actually the hip that was causing the problem.

Quote:
Question: How bad were the injuries?
Brown: "Well, right before I had the surgery, I played the whole year with a torn labrum. That was the last year I played, when I made the Pro Bowl (2008). I had a torn labrum and a sports hernia. The next year came, I was practicing and in the preseason, my whole left side went numb. I went and had the surgery. I recovered from that pretty well. I could've played in the playoffs last year for New Orleans. But we didn't know how long it was gonna take, so they put me on IR."

You would have been better off with a hypothetical like "Could we be 3-13 next year?"
