Pay closer attention. Relative to the coordinator making the right calls and utilizing the players talents correctly, emotions play a small role.
Besides
Now Kemo getting fired up is going to save him from his roller skates?
Golston get super-human strength?
Hall doesn't slip?
Reed Doughty will suddenly become an elite safety?
Rogers will catch the ball?
All because they're more emotional? PUH-LEASE

Its not just emotion. You also have to maintain discipline especially on defense otherwise you will frequently be caught outta position.

Shameless self-promotion. It is what it is.

Re: It's Donovan's F-ing Homecoming Week

Needless to say I hope Donovan has a great day and most of all the Redskins win the game. McNabb needs a good performance in this game to boost his own self esteem.

In the first two home games I was checking him out on the sidelines through my SwaroVison, you could sense from his body language he's not accustomed to the kind of defense he was witnessing. Teams found it more difficult to come back on Jim Johnson's defense than what he was seeing from this defense. He had that look of "I've put up 27 points and it's evaporated" what more do I have to do. He could definately use a morale booster.

Yes, I agree. It is not just emotion. However, often emotion and discipline go together. Players who are "up" for the game are more attentive and typically do fewer undisciplined things.

And, yes, scheme does play a role.

But we have all seen teams who were terrible one week and then awesome the next, and vice versa. On these occasions we were talking about the same players (disciplined or not) and often the same schemes. The difference is emotion.

Oh I agree with you, I'm not ready to jump off the cliff like everyone else.

Nor am I. Different week, different emotion, different outcome.

I damn near jumped sunday night BUT like you said Lotus, every week in the NFL is different. Rams caught a team that wanted to show up and have it easy.. This isnt COLLEGE FOOTBALL, you cant do that in the NFL

No, it's focus and practice. You can be all emotional as you want, but if you don't know what the hell you are doing, you are a liability on the field.

Why in the world would this team show up and not play hard? What have we done to prove we are better than the Rams and should be given a W without even showing up? Until this team figures that out, we are not going very far.

Not spastic emotion but concentrated emotion. If you are emotionally into things, you tend to be more focused. When you are not emotionally invested, focus wavers.
