Re: The runners thread

We got great weather for the Bethesda Turkey Chase 10K! Great way to start the day. I finished in 57:04- a 9:10 pace. It was a tough course. I'd say about half of it was on an incline of some sort.

I can now stuff myself all day long guilt-free.

Re: The runners thread

Right before the race when thousands of us lined up, they played the National Anthem, which was amazing. There was a live camera feed set up to an Army base in Kabul. The soldiers over there were running a satellite 10K simultaneously with us. We got to shout out Happy Thanksgiving to all of them. I had chills, and I got a little misty eyed for a minute. It was all the inspiration I needed.

Great Thanksgiving moment right there.

Re: The runners thread

Yesterday I did 3 miles in my sister's neighborhood instead of the 3 miles I usually do on the treadmill at the gym, and man did I learn how much harder outdoors running is compared to the treadmill. There's just so many variables outdoors that you don't get in the gym. Hills, weather, etc. There was a serious biting wind going on that gave me a bad cough afterward since I'm not used to jogging in that biting winter air. I also ended up with a shin splint in my left leg too. My buddy who I ran with told me I finished in roughly about 35 minutes, which is not bad for me considering it takes me about 45 at the gym. Butyeah it was definitely not bad, I'm considering taking up outdoors running full time at home instead of doing it at the gym now, and possibly taking my dog with me.

Re: The runners thread

Running outdoors is definitely a totally different experience vs a treadmill. If you run on a treadmill turn up the incline to at least 1% to better simulate running outdoors, even that doesn't really compare though.

Oh I was already turning the incline up at the gym to 1% percent, started at 0, then when I felt like I wanted more of a challenge bumped it up to .5, and now I'm at 1%. It definitely helps but at the same time it can't compare to running outdoors. I also loved how short it felt outside, the changing scenery, knowing that I just have myself to gauge when to slow down or walk for a bit, instead of mindlessly staring at the treadmill waiting for it to reach 1/2 mile so I can catch my breath. It's got a lot more going for it than doing the treadmill.

Re: The runners thread

Just ran 7 miles + a 5k race and 7 miles back to my house afterwards. Wasn't sure if I could pull it off but I made it...barely. Pretty unique experience. I won't be setting any 5k PR's this way, though.

Re: The runners thread

Finished the Disney World marathon today. I was hoping for a 4:00:00 time but really slowed down the last 5 miles and finished with a 4:19:xx. I had a blast though. Very cool experience for my first marathon. My knee hurts like a mofo, though!

My sister ran that several years back and was in the high 3:00 something.

Re: The runners thread

That's awesome 724! Congrats.

My wife and I both got picked out of the lottery for the Cherry Blossom 10 miler in April. Gotta start getting ready for that one.

Re: The runners thread

I'm just getting back into the swing after not being able to run for a month with a sore foot. Just waiting for some spring races to be announced to sign up for. Think I'm gonna try a 10k.

Re: The runners thread

Just finished a 10k trail run. I finished with a 55:57 despite the red clay mud that had us all slipping and sliding on half the race. Major props to my 70 year dad who finished in 1:00:11.
