Re: Carlos Rogers Drops His Heart in San Francisco

For those that are saying Rogers was a bust, I seriously disagree. He started since his rookie year. He was not a top cb but was in the next tier IMO. He had some bad times w/double moves & we all know about the drops.

Drafts are all relative. Don't compare him to Champ Bailey, who is one of the all time greats. Instead, compare him to the others in his class. Two CBs were picked ahead of him; Pacman Jones & Antrell Rolle. He was a better cb than both. Rolle has become a decent safety but wasn't much of a cb for a top 10 pick.

Carlos takes a slap back into reality.

He'll be a step down from Clements to the Niners.

Week 9 at Fed-Ex, Carlos is getting torched by Hankerson.

Rogers is absolutely not a bust. But he's certainly not one of the game's elites either. Never has been, probably never will be.

He's already start semi-bashing the team, talking about how they don't keep their own...yet he has no issue going to a team that just let Aubrayo Franklin and Nate Clements walk.

I wish him well, but his time here was long past its expiration date

I guess he missed the fact we kept Moss, Blades, Grossman, Buchanon, and Westbrook.

I don't. I want our WRs to absolutely embarrass him when we play mid-season and don't mind if other teams light him up either.

The 49ers have really had one of the worst offseasons of any team. They needed a QB, so they re-signed Alex Smith for a 5th chance. Maybe Harbaugh can finally get him to succeed, but there were better options out there. They lost a solid NT and CB...and really have not added anyone of real impact, Rogers included. They subtracted a lot more than they added, but they did it without being in cap trouble like Dallas...it's like they're trying to make Jim Harbaugh's job tougher.

Also, Crabtree is out 4-6 weeks with a foot injury and Gore wants paid and WAS holding out. If not for the new holdout fines, he'd be neutering that team.

I expect to see Kaepernick under center by the time we play them in Week 9.

So they need a QB and lost a CB and NT. Who does that sound like?

We didn't lose a NT.

I agree that they are taking backwards steps for this year.

But looked at charitably, these might be the first steps in the long process of roster overhaul by the new regime. It is hard to judge a successful long-term turnover by just the first steps.

I'm not saying that they will be successful, just trying to view the 9ers charitably.

Carlos....still talking smack quote: “I didn’t have any plans of going back to Washington,” Rogers told Grant Paulsen of 106.7 The Fan in a phone interview. “I wanted to go elsewhere. I thought it was time for me to move on.”

Rogers was philosophical about his time in Washington and moving on. “You know how Washington is. They’re always big in free agency and not signing their guys back and getting other players.”

Thought this was funny...

Quote:
After dropping two interceptions in the Redskins’ 27-24 loss to Indianapolis last year, he said: “I sit and think about it: ‘Man, I should have had them picks. Should have had four or five, pretty much probably leading the league or at the top. But my main thing is: I'm not going to get myself down because somebody outside of here — or whoever — talk about Carlos dropping picks...

“My main thing: I'd rather cover my man, cover the top receiver, lock him down, not let him catch the ball.”
Of course he would rather do that, he has no choice, he can't catch! lol

If he caught just half of the ones that hit him in the hands he would be dangerous.

This is what Roy Hobbs4 had to say in the comments:

Carlos Rogers just proved in this article that the decision to get rid of him was the right one to make.

Rogers apparently lied about not wanting to come back to DC because the reports were this week that his agent contacted Washington about a contract a few days ago. So much for his bravado about not wanting to return.

Then the parting shot about the Redskins being big spenders and not wanting to resign their own players.

Wrong again Carlos. Jammal Brown, Phillip Buchanon, Santana Moss, HB Blades, Byron Westbrook, and now Rex Grossman were ALL resigned by the team for 2011.

Matty:

If he caught half the balls that hit him in the hands, we could have called him 50/50...

You can't steal Rod Gardner's name. He earned that name with years of sucking.

More like 7/93.. Not as 'catchy'-pun intended-but much more accurate.
