Re: Russel Wilson or Bob
Just to get this straight, The Redskins, 49ers and Seahawks are using the "pistol formation" designed by the University of Nevada coach Chris Ault. If anyone should be pretty familiar with this offense/formation is Colin Kapernick.
The pistol offense is an American football formation and strategy developed in 2004 by Chris Ault, the University of Nevada head coach. It is a hybrid of the traditional shotgun and single back offenses. In the pistol offense, also commonly referred to as the "pistol formation", the quarterback lines up four yards behind the center rather than seven yards, as with the shotgun formation. The running back lines up three yards[citation needed] directly behind the quarterback, as opposed to next to him as in the shotgun. In the pistol formation, the quarterback is close enough to the line of scrimmage to be able to read the defense and far enough back to give him extra time and a better vision of the field just like in the shotgun.

Hindsight is 20/20. No one put Russell as being that good, with the exception of me. #Hometownboy

Re: Russel Wilson or Bob
RW has got a better D, better ST, a better RB, better O line than RGIII. Keep that in mind...

Re: Russel Wilson or Bob
Let me ask you guys this.
Would Russel Wilson have led the Reskins the way RG III has? Does he have that leadership factor that we have with RG III?

Re: Russel Wilson or Bob
He has the leadership skills equal to RGIII but not quite the physical skill set. Although close, I don't think his impact in Washington would have been as great.

I think Wilson would have been good in Washington, good players generally are good anywhere they go, it's the coaching and system that makes them elite IMO.

Re: Russel Wilson or Bob
I don't think we will have a definite answer for at least 5 years, maybe 10. However after 10 we will def know which we would have rather had. I hope it's RG3, but for the picks at this point Wilson looks like a good option. I think RG3 is better and has a higher ceiling, but Wilson is very impressive

Re: Russel Wilson or Bob
After finally seeing Wilson today, honestly Wilson seems like the real deal. Hard to believe Luck, RG3 and Wilson came from the same draft. Hindsight will tell us if all of these guys produce consistently over time - and Luck and RG3 seem less bust-proof. But Wilson cannot be playing any better tonight against one of the best defenses in the league. Three weeks of > 40-50 points is ridiculous.
Regardless, I think Washington DC needed the hype of RG3, his poise, personality and leadership. Shanahan's offensive schemes have maximized his production, and we're only going to see him mature as a passer as stated above. In terms of rookie of the year -- I think RG3 may get it, but Luck / Wilson are right there. |
