What happened to the Amerson of last year?

Amerson can't even show up to team meetings on time then gets outrun by a 6'6 250lb mountain.

I haven't even heard his name called all year. Has he been playing?

He wasnt really outrun. He came from a stand still and tried to accelerate to catch a guy who is already runing full speed.

Secondary is youngest in the NFL. As long as we stay the course and take the bumps i feel like they will develop nicely. They both show flashes of greatness already.

Because issue right now is how much faith do they have in their support behind them? Safety help is terrible atm.

I'm still sad we didn't go after Schwartz after he was fired by the Lions. Great defensive mind. Just look at what he's doing in Buffalo.

Synder and et al are not familiar with him like they are with Haslett!

I agree with this. We need to find, somehow someway, a safety who can:
a) stay healthy
b) not cause 15yd penalties
c) be able to cover and be a last line of defense.

Clark meets a and b, but at this point I think it's clear he can't be over the top help.

What is frustrating, is that imo the main areas of concern are the same ones that every Redskin fan knew going into last offseason (and in terms of RT, the last 3 seasons). Granted I thought MMoses was going to be a plugin guy and he obviously isn't, but I'm also not paid the big bucks to make those few draft choices we had.

He is definitely trending down.

We should just be a man team, stop running zones these players don't seem to grasp.

To do that, we need corners who can capably play man coverage, and since DHall went down we don't have anyone who fits that description.

Well, the corners we have are better in man than zone.

I think Amerson has a tendency to get burned deep in 1-on-1. But better at reacting in a zone.

I like that thought. The whole idea of a zone is so you don't get burned deep, but that happens to us anyway.

So, I say "eff it", let's go man-to-man & that way we can blitz 1-2 every play.

So we get beat deep every once in awhile...it's not like that doesn't happen now, sometimes 5-6 times/game.

You would also need greater depth then we have, because Zone is a breather sometimes. Coming from experience.

Just at a glance, seems like Revis has rebounded at NE. Wish our guys could step up more here. And they are young, maybe they will.

Re: Blown Coverages - Who do we blame?!

I don't blame the coordinators. I would put the blame mostly on injuries and inconsistency - meaning they never seem to have the same starting secondary/nickel/dime from week to week. I haven't actually looked, but has there been more than two consecutive weeks that we had the same secondary starting together? Doesn't seem like it. I'm like, Oh Minnifield is back...hey who is this Ducre guy? You can't expect great things, and more importantly you have to expect miscommunication and blown coverages when you can't seem to put a consistent secondary out on the field from week to week.

Personally I would give the defense a C+ so far this year. They haven't been great, they have given up some big plays (head scratchers even), but they have kept us in most games. It's the offense that has let the team down the majority of the year.

We did run man a lot against Indy. Besides Breeland, we were getting beat on that too.
