Re: WFT Vs Chargers Pre Game Thread
I give the Chargers the W in a close one simply because they have the better QB. I think Herbert can and will make some plays out of the pocket where Fitz won't be able to do that.

Re: WFT Vs Chargers Pre Game Thread
The dreaded cross country 1pm start curse will play a factor. Herbert didn't play at all in the preseason so there's no way he'll be ready, right? WFT wins 24-20 on a late defensive TD.

Excited to see what the buzz is about. I do anticipate teams game planning for Chase/Sweat by playing quick ball and avoiding 5 to 7 step drops/long developing plays. Last year it seemed teams molded their play calling to minimize our pass rush. |

Re: WFT Vs Chargers Pre Game Thread
This offense has essentially been without Samuel since he signed. I really don't see how his absence will have any impact whatsoever.
The Chargers without Ekeler is a much worse scenario for them, than the absence of Samuel is for WFT. |

But the negative nancy in me feels like we'll get a handful of games with Humphries until his concussion concerns become a reality. Leno will give us below average play. Samuels being out. Our run game was a big issue last year as it was non-existent and we were predictable on play calling. We have done 0 to address our run game .. except to hope that by being a more vertical down field team, defenses have to defend the whole field and not just 20 yards from the LOS. i dont know man ... Scott Turner has to earn his paycheck this year. |

Our D is just stacked. As long as we can mask our LBs and the underneath/intermediate stuff ... top 5 is realistic. Im pumped up. Healthy Chase coming off the edge ... Im bart Scott. |

Re: WFT Vs Chargers Pre Game Thread
It's hard to say that we have done 0 to address the run game. We brought back Scherff, brought in Leno, brought back Flowers, drafted Cosmi, and drafted a dynamic Jaret Patterson. Not to mention upgraded the WR / TE positions, not only with pass-catching threats, but with willing blockers which should help a ton too.
Honestly, there's no excuses for Scott Turner this year. If the offense doesn't get it done, it falls squarely on him. |

Re: WFT Vs Chargers Pre Game Thread
And don't forget we have an offense that should stretch the field and stop the heavy run D's we faced last year when they knew we were all dink and dunk. I mean look how we played better against TB than we did all year, because we were able to go more than 15y downfield. I'm quietly optimistic about this offense.

LT = worse. Leno is subpar and Lucas played above his expected level last year. Last year we got kinda lucky with LT play. It wasnt great but it was better than it should have been, below avg. This year we dont get lucky and get what we paid for = below avg LT play. LG = Flowers/Wes are decent, C type players. I guess this position upgrades bc we have 2 decent locked-in options and dont waste game trying Martin or Charles and other musicla chairs. C = Roullier is going to Roullier, hopefully he stays healthy RG = Scherff is going to Scherff, hopefully he stays healthy RT = rookie Cosmi hopefully is comparable to Moses, perhaps Cosmi may even be a better run blocker. I do think Cosmi has more upside but hes a rookie and Moses gave like B- level play last year .. hopefully we get B- play this year. Thomas is a willing blocker but is not nasty, woudlnt trust him to set the edge on a power run. Patterson? We will see what he brings, he does seem more north south vs Gibson and seems to find a hole and fall forward though. I assume Patterson isnt on this team in a year or 2. |

Re: WFT Vs Chargers Pre Game Thread
Just having a full season under his belt should help Gibson be a better all around back this year.
