Re: Playoff Victory - Postgame Thread
Campbell can be borderline reckless at times with going for it, I've yet to see DQ go for it when it's a clear situation he should be taking points or punting, like a 4th and long. Still, I don't expect to see much kicking this week. It's going to be an all gas no brakes kind of game.

think of it this way would you rather gamble on Gonzales hitting 40 plus yard field goal or JD5 converting a 4th and say no greater then 10 yards for a first down ( i am just speaking to the form not you specifically matty) PLUS if gonzo misses it it moves the ball back what another 5 yards

^^ If we shore up our D next season, you might see less going for it on 4th downs. As it is, our best weapon on D is Jayden keeping drives going, eating up clock. You can call it gambling or you can call it playing the best odds. What you can’t do is question whether it’s working at 13-5. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

And I donÂ’t understand all the hate against Gonzales. Those fourth down attempts I was talking about were basically extra point field goals not long distance. Gonzales went five or seven in the regular season with his two misses in Tennessee being one over 40 and one over 50,3 for 3 in the playoffs and 21 of 21 on extra points

He doinked in the game winner. Another inch or two off and we could be sitting here talking about the offseason. |

Re: Playoff Victory - Postgame Thread
I agree not that great in his career, but I’m talking about this year, and the doink doesn’t count in the decision making because that was the last play of the game and doesn’t factor into coaches decision beforehand. Those were extra point fg’s and he hasn’t missed on one of those all season, everyone’s using the “doink” as justification for going for it on those 4th downs, well I’m not buying what you’re selling. If these were over 45 yard fg’s on 4th down then that’s a different story.

Re: Playoff Victory - Postgame Thread
Evans abuses CB's, end of. There's a reason he's had 11 straight 1000y seasons. And that PI call was dubious (along with a few other missed calls). And as far as Evans goes, they played him better 2nd half. I'd still say Lattimore has had much better games, but I'd also much rather he was out there than any of the other CB's (excepting Sainristil).

Re: Playoff Victory - Postgame Thread
Lattimore looks like a guy that hasn't played much football the last few months, he's rusty. Not worried about him long term.

Re: Playoff Victory - Postgame Thread
Regarding Lattimore, I would prefer it if they didn't put him out there on an island until he gets more game reps under his belt. I'm not concerned long term either, but he doesn't appear to have the legs just yet, not to mention the time in the system.

Re: Playoff Victory - Postgame Thread
I like going for it on 4th down when we convert them. I don't like going for it on 4th down when we don't convert them.
Too early for a Lions pre-game thread? I really hope Lattimore on an island vs. St. Brown is not part of the game plan next week.

Re: Playoff Victory - Postgame Thread
I have no issue with going for it on 4th, given our pattern of success and the fact we don't have a 100% trusted kicker. I just have an issue with a couple of those calls. The Sneak with Mariota was a good call given teh down and distance. A nice wrinkle having JD out there; I actually thought they were going to throw to him on the second one (maybe they were with the right coverage?). But of the 2 we failed, one was a terrible play. At this point, even if you are re-using a play that worked before, go with something you have 100% confidence in. Occasionally I think KK out coaches himself!

So I didn't love the decision to not take the 3, but I mainly did not like the play call. The rest of them, I didn't mind the decisions or calls. Just that 1st one.

Re: Playoff Victory - Postgame Thread
Injuries are the main concern with Higgins but man when he's in the lineup he's a big time target.
Definitely need more weapons, I'll trust in whatever Peters does. |
