Re: Report: Shanahan to DC done deal
Shanahan already picking Redskins staff
By Mark J. Miller Washington Redskins head coach Jim Zorn supposedly added the word "former" to his title this morning and now it's just a matter of time before Mike Shanahan is named as the head coach in D.C. He may not be in charge just yet, but Shanahan is already putting together his coaching staff, according to the Washington Examiner. Before Shanahan can be named, though, the Redskins have to reportedly interview secondary coach Jerry Gray again for the position, according to the Washington Post. When Gray was interviewed previously, it was before new general manager Bruce Allen had joined the club so he apparently needs to speak with Allen so that the team will comply with the Rooney Rule, which requires teams to interview minority candidates for all top jobs, though in this case that process seems like a farce. Shanahan will apparently have his son, Kyle Shanahan, leaving his spot as offensive coordinator with the Houston Texans to serve the same role with the Redskins. And Cincinnati Bengals defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer is apparently going to be the guy in charge on that side of the ball for D.C. as soon as Shanahan takes over. Source: Washington Examiner |

^ I get that but why Zimmer? The defense in Cinnci has never been all that hot. I honestly feel Ryan is younger and better. It would merge the Walsh/Shanahan offense with the Callihan/Ryan defense. I think that is what the browns are looking to do.

Thanks for the update, Sandtrap, but most of us (not all) already are familiar with that potential dance card.

I find it funny a Dallas fan is coming on our site to try and add info about our coaching situation. Shouldn't you guys be more worried about why the Eagles let you win and didn't show anything defensivly or offensively during the meaningless game? Oh I know it was meaningfull for you guys in Dallas so you could say you all took 1st place in the division. But now the Eagles have game film to look at in order to tackle you in the play offs. They gave you nothing to work with. |

Re: Report: Shanahan to DC done deal
Why switch to a 3-4? We dont have enough draft picks as it is to address all our holes. Switching to a 3-4 this offseason would be a terrible idea.

Re: Report: Shanahan to DC done deal
The only thing I can keep thinking is Zimmer's contract is up this year. Ryan is only in his first year of his contract or second. I think it might be a little harder to pick him up. We could call him DC/Asst. HC I guess.

So in your opinion, the Eagles surrendered a first round bye and the ability to have a playoff game at home, risked getting their starters hurt, JUST so they would not "show thier hand"? C'Mon are you SERIOUS? Were you on Zorns staff? When you make a speculation, at least have the courtesy to have evidence to back it up. |

Also, we might be adding Rick Dennison as OL coach, Bobby Turner as RB coach, and Jeff Goodman as Director of Pro Personnel, while Brown gets bumped up to Director of Player Personnel and Scott Campbell is shown the door. All very speculative at this point

Re: Report: Shanahan to DC done deal
someone asked why switch to a 3-4, it was rumored that Shanahan and his former DC where investigating that type of defense. Although Ryan is in year one of his contract, he may be fired along with mangini by holmgren to bring people that fit his mold

For what it's worth Wilbon said Shannahan will be the head coach of the Redskins by the time PTI goes off the air.

Yep I guess I'm just crazy. I most likely am wrong but I don't like either team. It will be funny if I'm right though. The Eagles come out and blast Dallas in the play offs. |
