And still is the prudent move, imo. Clausen's an unknown quantity and it seems a good amount of teams that needed qb's weren't impressed enough to take him in the first.

McNabb's good for another few seasons and we know what we're getting.

McNabb is still the more prudent move no matter where Clausen goes.

I am not ready to sit out of NFL trash talking for 3 additional years after last year.

Including Denver passing him to take Tebow as their 3rd stringer. I'm still surprised that he slipped, but like I said the Redskins seemed to have move on the McNabb trade after seeing something in Clausen they didn't like.

You may want to check your facts on Clausen. Has the guy fallen, yes. But every major NFL analyst (Kiper, Mayock, McShay, Jaws, Gruden) all have stated Clausen will be a good starting QB in the NFL. Don't start comparing him to Kafka or Stull.
I don't hate Clausen, I don't think the track record of these overhyped QBs over say the last 20 years is very good. And I don't hate ND either. A hometown kid was a ND QB in the early 80's. After Holtz was canned ND went to shit for good. Who are the only Qbs that have garnered pre draft megahype and have delivered in the last 15-20 years? Both Mannings and our new #1 QB. Other than that, they have been busts. I remember when the Lions played the Browns in a preseason game in 2008. Every Brown's fan had a Quinn jersey on, when Anderson was then the starter. Funny as hell!!!! Kid couldn't start an entire season for the lowly Browns and they shipped him off. And to be fair to Jimmy, I don't see Sammy, Timmy, or Babyface making a huge impact either. The later 3 played on teams that were head and shoulders more talented than their weekly competition, which is why I think they will flop in the NFL. What will they do when the odds are even? Yeah, they shined like the sun when they had a marked advantage over the competition, but what are they going to do when MR. Parity comes a knocking?

Re: The Official 2010 NFL Draft Thread: Round 1

When the draft started could anybody see Clausen slipping all the way to the second round? I didn't see that happening at all. I figured if he fell at least one team would be desperate enough to trade into the back end of the first round and grab him.

Yes. Especially considering there's no market for JC. We would then have JC, Clausen, and Trent Williams. It seems as if Shanahan wanted both McNabb and Campbell from the jump, otherwise he sould've waited after the draft.

Thank you. At least someone appreciated it. These threads move so fast sometimes. I'll post it again later.

I mean, while you couldn't have predicted that not one team would trade up into the first round to get Clausen, I don't think it was unfathomable to think that any team who wanted to move up from the top end of the second could get him easily. This is still the case. The 33rd pick is likely going to be a QB with Minnesota sitting there, someone is going to trade for the Rams' pick, and anyone who wants Clausen/McCoy is going to be all over that.

They were never high on Clausen to begin with, according to what SS said. So it's reasonable to think even if we didn't get McNabb, Clausen would still be on the board tonight.

After seeing McNabb in a burgandy and Gold #5, the last thing I want to see is JC.

I have seen enough...

So Mel, how well did that "Clausen in the top 10/15" worked out? LOL.
