I thought it was interesting how he pointed out the Steelers as an example of a team that has big money tied up in its' qb, other skill position players, and the defense, and how they're still successful. Just goes to show it's not impossible to build a team when you're paying a qb big money.

Re: Cousins Saga 4.0. Is he done in DC?
After Cousins little event today, I'm more optimistic about the organization, and it confirmed some things that I suspected:
1. It was Cousins that held things up last year, they did make a legit starting offer to him, and he knew what BA was going to say in the July press conference. The media had blown that whole story out of proportion. 2. Cousins has been shown that he's wanted here. The story line that they needed to evaluate him is from 2 damn years ago. We don't target high price free agents like Laveon Bell anymore. The bigger issue is why we keep drafting outside linebackers that suck. I'm still bitter we traded a pick to Dallas so they could get Demarcus Lawrence. |

No but you are aware the salary cap typically increases every year, which means down the road his salary will be more manageable. And we have Eric Schaffer on hand, who if you haven't noticed is fairly good at being able to get us the players that we want at the prices we can afford them at.

If they are made to wait till March, he most likely will
test the FA market. I don’t think the skins put a 3rd tag on him. Washington Redskins' Kirk Cousins willing to wait until March for deal - Washington Redskins Blog- ESPN

Re: Cousins Saga 4.0. Is he done in DC?
IMHO, I don't know how these things work, but it would seem to me that the only thing to for the Skins FO to do from here is to kiss Kirk's ass back a little, offer him a legit offer (25mil +) try again to start negotiations, if he doesn't bite you tell Kirk at the deadline, "we love you Kirk we want you here, what would it take for you to find a peace here, not just with money but with being a winning organization?" If he doesn't bite or asks for >28mil then say, "we understand you want to see what you're worth and where you feel a peace, we respect that, but I hope you can respect that, well, you're our plan for a future, and if you can't commit to us long term we need to protect our investment in you, so we will put you on the transition tag with the hope of signing you long-term and jeep trying, and you will then have the opportunity to look around and see what offers there are and if you feel this is really the right place for you, if you decide to stay we'll sign a long term deal, if you instead accept another teams offer, we will match it if it's at all possible and hope we can help you to find a peace here, but we want you to want to be here too, so if you want to go elsewhere we will help you work out a trade."

Re: Cousins Saga 4.0. Is he done in DC?
Bruce should put the non-exclusive tag on Kirk and reach out to Denver for a trade for their 1st rounder.
Why would Denver do this? Because this is the only way they can get Kirk without cutting other key players. The Redskins can match any offer the Broncos create because of Denver's limited cap space. Why would Kirk do this? Because this is his best option to go to a potentially winning team. With the 5th pick we take Barkley, Josh Allen at 13. From there, I am signing Sam Bradford or Keenum on a 3-year deal. Use the added money in free agency to fix the LG, and defense.

Re: Cousins Saga 4.0. Is he done in DC?
I'm good with anything the Skins decide to do with Kirk as long as this contract issue is resolved quickly.
What I don't want is for Kirk's potential contract to become a roadblock to signing Zac Brown and other FA's who will make the team better. Ideally, the Skins will make Kirk a solid offer and then proceed as if he will not be here next season, including meeting with FA QB's. If Kirk's side doesn't decide to negotiate and get a deal done before Keenum or some other QB signs here, then the Skins can simply rescind their offer to Kirk and move forward. At this point, the Skins management needs to get back in the driver's seat.

This. Bradford isn’t worth the risk, he’s more fragile than Jordan Reed. |

Whoever is brought in here will not be the answer long-term. The rookie will be so I don't care who the vet is honestly. I would want the rookie to take over in the 2nd half of the season or win the job outright.
