I think this goes without saying based on my previous posts, but I'm with you 100%.

Im jumping on the Danny Smith bandwagon. On his show, Cooley said that Smith was one of the best leaders he's ever known and every single player on the team would run through a wall for the guy. He also said that every player, even those who didnt do special teams, felt open going to Smith about anything. Cooley said he was the only coach on the team he truly trusted. I seem to remember watching games, and Smith was always in Shanahans ear, helping him decide when to go for it, when to punt, when to take a time out, etc.

I think if we want a leader, we should hire Smith and pair him with an up and comming OC and DC.

I will say that I remember when Gibbs was going to call the 2nd time out in a row that Smith ran over and tried to stop him, do y'all remember that?

My updated coaches:

Head Coach
1. Russ Grimm
2. Ken Whisenhut
3. Hue Jackson
4. Sean McDermott/ Kirby Smart
5. Jay Gruden/ Mike Zimmer

Defensive Coordinator
1. Ken Norton Jr.
2. Kirby Smart
3. Raheem Morris
4. Pepper Johnson
5. Gregg Williams

Offensive Coordinator
1. Hue Jackson
2. Greg Knapp
3. Rob Chudzinski
4. Ben Mcadoo
5. Terry Robiskie
Just curious, merely as a coach (forgetting that he was a Hog) why is Russ Grimm at the top of your list?

One bad idea after another with some folks.

I'd welcome him back to run special teams, but HC is a serious stretch.

People (like myself) couldn't wait for him to get canned as special teams coach, now people want him back as a head coach.

Off-season is going to be just as dysfunctional as the regular season was so it seems.

We can't hire him due to the PR nightmare it would be unfortunatly. I like personally like the defensive coordinator of the panthers. It sure would be nice to have a coach that values knocking the chocolate outta people and moving the ball on offense.

Good thing the fans don't choose the coaches. Everyone has their own ideas and most of them stink.

Case in point
Who should be the next coach of the Redskins?

Russ is at the top of my list because our biggest issue has been the offensive line and leadership. Not fixing RG3. I know that Russ will fix both of those issues. Surround Russ with a strong offensive coordinator focused on play calling and a defensive coordinator, we will do well.

I want coaches that develop talent, not coaches that think their scheme is end all, be all. Everywhere Russ has gone the Running game has done well and so has the offensive line. When I say this, I mean at a Superbowl level. I think smart head coaches have wised up in the NFL and hide their best coaches in positional roles. That is why I would target a Coaches like Ken Norton Jr., Kirby Smart, or Pepper Johnson. All have been with their head coaches for long tenures and know how to implement their respective defenses. They also can develop talent. They raise the level of their players.

Same thing with the OC, look at Hue Jackson or Terry Robiskie, both coaches make players better. Matter of fact both have done it here in Washington before.

How confident are you that ANY of these guys you've got hard ons for would have done better than shanahan inheriting cerratos roster and having the salary cap penalty?

Keep in mind that almost 50 players on the roster zorns last year were completely out of the league 2 years later. Shanahan inherited a roster that devoid of talent and the cap penalty prevented him from fixing it as quickly as he otherwise could have. I'm not trying to whine about losing shanahan as much as I'm pointing out that you have no rational basis for believing Any of these college coaches or nfl coordinators will improve on the foundation shanahan built vs tearing it apart.
lets not forget that it was Shanahan that created the cap penalty

NO SHANNY DID NOT CREATE THE CAP PENALTY.

Vinny and Danny created the massive boondoggle contract for Haynesworth, and Hall too.

John Mara, Roger Goodell, and Jeff Lurie and other owners, actually created the cap "penalty".

All Shanahan did was have the contracts redone to pay out in the uncapped year. A restructuring that THE LEAGUE HAD TO ACTIVELY APPROVE to be implemented. And the league did approve the contracts. And even after the cap "penalty" they put in place two years after the fact, the league front office is quoted as saying the Redskins "broke no rules".

For all the stuff that did go wrong in Shanny's tenure, the cap "penalty" was definitely not his fault.

Baylor while exciting and electric, has shown this type of ball before under Briles.
Be careful of the "error of recency".

I'm not totally sold on Briles either but last night didn't convince me either way. They played their worst game of the year...I don't put much into just one game.

This thread is filled with more stupid comments then I can remember in any other Warpath thread. And this time not all of them are mine!

This thread is so fueled by emotion that I think some of us may be losing our minds over the search for a new HC.

Note: This is not addressed at any particular poster, so don't any of you crazy MF's dress up like your mother and try to stab me while I'm in the shower.

Jesus....Some people just don't get it, yes technically he and Bruce caused it. but we would have been in cap hell with the contracts given by the last regime if they didn't dump them all into the uncapped year.

What??!!??

Folks the cap penalty probably saved us from ourselves. It was a blessing in diguise and the official blame in my eyes is Vinny/Danny, they were stupid enough to give that pos all that cash.
