Mark Curnutte, of the Cincinnati Enquirer, reports free agent TE Matt Schobel will get a $1.8 million signing bonus on a five-year contract. He will arrive in Philadelphia on Monday, March 13, to sign his contract and appear at a news conference.

nothing important. taylor got paid though. his base salaries are good for the vikes, but 5.6mill in bonuses for an average RB? lerber might be a good deal, depending on his production.

schobel was CHEAP, but its not like anyone thinks of him as a game breaker. and to think, for a little more, they could have gotten robert royal instead :P schobel is faster than royal, but otherwise a fairly average TE.

you could get by if you had peyton or a healthy daunte, but you know... brad johnson doesn't exactly inspire safeties to set themselves deep.

I think childress is just going to run a west coast, short pass, clock chewing offense and depend on his defense to keep them in contention.

taylor's receiving stats: 41 catches for 292 yards

it makes more sense when you think of him as more of a west coast pass catching RB. that's what they did with westbrook.



He's basically trying to create the eagles, part 2. He's already being stingy on player contracts (don't pay daunte, dont' pay williams, get some 2nd rate guys), overspending on a WR with a bad track record, betting on an RB because of his hands instead of his running ability, and depending heavily on defense and passing while ignoring the need to run.

In that view, their moves don't seem completely retarded, but it'll probably take more than 1 year to rebuild and find a new QB. BJ is good, and the cast is alright, but there's some big holes that the draft isn't going to fill (WR if KR isn't a monster, future QB, etc).

Nice on the Brad comment. I sware I never saw the guy throw farther than 20 yards the whole year. And I caught like 3 or 4 Vikings games somehow.

But why would Childress try to create another Brian Westbrook type system. IT DOESN'T WORK. I hate saying this but I think T.O. was so good that he made it work for a while. The Running Game is coming back in style and if Childress wants to have a succesful offense he better get with the program.

I saw a lot of Vikes games too (being here in Madison). I must say, I was totally uninspired. Brad is a great game-manager, but he's not going to light up defenses. During Brad's great winning streak, he got bailed out by defensive and special teams units that were playing great. Granted, he didn't fumble or throw a bunch of INTs, but his arm didn't win games for the Vikes. He was also playing against some of the worst teams in the league.

I like Brad, but he's not their answer.

Randle El didn't have huge numbers last year - 35 catches for 558 yards and one touchdown -- but he's known for his versatility as a receiver, returner and emergency quarterback. His value went up after his beautiful touchdown bomb to Hines Ward in the Super Bowl. A Chicago native, Randle El has said he'd like to play at home. The Bears, however, haven't expressed much
interest in him yet. There's also a chance he could return to Steelers.



Adam Archuleta, S Potential Suitors: Redskins, Bears
Most Likely Destination: Bears
Look for some team to use Archuleta like the Steelers use Troy Polamalu -- a big hitter who often moves up to the line to disrupt defenses. Bears coach Lovie Smith was a coordinator in St. Louis and will likely talk with Archuleta. It feels like the hard-hitting strong safety has been around a while, but he has just five years of wear and tear in the NFL.




LaVar Arrington, LB Potential Suitors: Giants, Eagles, Browns
Most Likely Destination: Giants
Arrington was so anxious to hit the free-agent market, he agreed to forego $4.4 million of his salary from the Redskins. The former Pro Bowler didn't play consistently under Joe Gibbs last season even though Arrington was healthy. Many question Arrington's ability to maintain discipline in a defensive scheme. Still, several teams are in the market for an outside linebacker, and it's hard to match the 27-year-old's athleticism and ability.



David Givens, WR Potential Suitors: Browns, Browns, Giants, Titans, Patriots, Redskins
Most Likely Destination: Browns
Givens, a seventh-round pick in 2002, was playing for peanuts in New England and managed to shine despite the spread-out nature of the Patriots' offense. Last season he caught 59 passes for 738 yards despite missing three games with a knee injury. Browns coach Romeo Crennel knows Givens from New England and is expected to make a strong run at the talented wide receiver.

i think we need another def tackle.. after not getting maake, perhaps we look at rocky bernard- a good young player.. fits the skins mold of an up and comer rather than signing sam adams or ted washington..
